3.0 out of 5 stars i have to say... (its more like 3.5 stars), 3 Jun. 2006
there is no doubt in my mind the characters in this movie are gorgeous. Unfortunetly, that about all that is good to say about it.

In Pride and Prejudice the novel, it was the development of the characters that captured our attention. In the movie however, it was too short to capture the true essance. Some of the dialogue stays true to the novel but it is all in vain.

What is most surprising is Lizzy in the novel was always a woman before her time; she had her pride and acted on her feelings. Unfortunetly due to the lack of time (i suppose) her witty remarks have changed her character into something similar to a girl of the 21 century. Im not saying evolution is bad, but the change in character is too dramatic.

And what happened to Mr. Dsrcy? he went from being debonair and mysterious because he ws quiet to an unfeeling person who showed No emotion at all. Frankly, if a person hadn't read the novel, they wouldn't have even figured out her like Elizabeth until he proposed.

I suppose if the movie hadn't had the name of Pride and Prejudice, it would have recieved better reviews, but this is Jane Austen and nothing but the best deserves the name.

This review is from: Desire and Duty (Hardcover)
this book does not deserve to be called a sequel to Jane Austen. first of all what happened to the character? Geogiana seems to have become more and more pineful "for her true love" and just really doesn't seem very interesing-- which is very peculiar seeing as how she had experience with Wickham, and ought to be more intelligent.

And Darcy and Elizabeth? their development is even worse. Darcy seems to resemble a soft grandfather with advice and cookies waiting, and Elizabeth-- we all know she's a very intelligent and caring person-- but the sense of softness in this book just disgusts me. Even if they both were married in the end and found true love, their personality could not have changed 360 degrees.

Basically the only relation between this story and Pride and Prejudice are the characters names. If you want a sequel to the famous novel, do not read this book because it is a waste of time and will undoubtedly make you weep at the differences between the books.

confession of fitzwillian darcy is no doubt one of the best sequels to pride and prejudice there is. speaking as a new jane austen addict, i have very high expectation for what needs to be found in a good book, especally one that claims to be a sequel of the famed classic.

=> Pride and Prejudice is told from the view of Elizabeth Bennett, told the story of her relationship with Mr. Darcy and how it progresses to eventual love and marriage.

But what of Mr. Darcy? What of his thoughts and opinions? After all he was a main character, he must have had his side of the story to tell. And that is exactly what Confessions of Fitzwilliam Darcy says. It tells of the strange way he was first drawn to Elizabeth, how he tried to conquer that infatuation, him failing to do so, and getting his heart crushen when Elizabeth rejected him so painfully. But even his pride, his arogance, and his high sense of self propriety were nothing compared to the unextinguishable love for Lizzy he still ferventy keeps close in his heart....

ps. i seemed to notice i gave confessions 5 stars while the average was 4. Pride and prejudice is a great book, especally for those girls whose hearts throb whenever they her a whisper of the name darcy... so i suppose this is the reason for the extra star. :0)but in all due respect to mary street, this book deserves it more than enough.
