A really engrossing portrayal of the times. Very well written with excellent charactersation of the individuals. The sort of novel that 'drops' you into the era very clearly. If you have a taste for drama with a bit of romanticism and history then this is for you. I enjoyed it immensely.

One of the most gripping stories I've ever read. Starts slowly then the story gets so exciting you want to devour it quickly. It is original full of twists- truly excellent!

This story is quite unique in its imaginative style. The use of descriptive language conjures up vivid pictures of both the last escape and its inhabitants. I would recommend it to all age groups - reading to the young should enough encourage a love of the extraordinary. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weirdly funny but compelling, 31 Dec 2013

A strange mixture of detective and unusual humour. At times it jumps confusingly from one aspect of the story to another, however it would not have been easy to leave unread. Only for those with a broad mind and appreciation for the alternative.

These Walkie Talkies exceeded all expectations. We used them on holiday over quite long distances on hilly terrain and they worked exceptionally well. A very useful product for keeping in touch with older children and the children have had hours of fun with them.

3.0 out of 5 stars An easy Sherlock read, 30 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A light and easy read with strong hints of the original books. The narrative disappointingly lacks some of the edge and pace that is apparent in recent film and television series - a possibility that would have been advantageous for this updated Sherlock mystery. Nevertheless the story is well formulated even though it may be a little predictable to some readers. I enjoyed it but may not buy a further volume should it be written.
