Diary of a Pilgrimage (Unabridged)
Diary of a Pilgrimage (Unabridged)
Offered by Audible Ltd

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb narrating makes this audio version a sheer pleasure, 23 Mar. 2014
Mysteriously neglected, this novel is beautifully constructed, with ample flashes of Jerome's inimitable humour combined with a touching regard for the purpose of the Pilgrimage. Deftly narrated by the marvellous Philip Bird. in short, a first class passage to Oberammergau! Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars What?!?!, 24 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have to dispute the comment that 'dog hairs don't stick to it'!!! Not true in this household containing one medium sized dog. Also I found the picture misleading as the whole throw is dark brown and therefore rather dismal. Disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A deft and subtle evocation, 6 April 2011
A compelling story, this book is set before, during and after WW1 in Norfolk and Nottingham. The reader follows three sisters as they meet characters and situations that are strangely familiar, and yet all appear as fresh as if they had never been told before. The narrative demands your attention; in other words, it is a page turner, but in such a gentle and sympathetic manner you are barely aware of it. The dialogue is beautifully caught and completely convincing. An author to watch - she brings real emotion to her characters and I admit to being haunted still by this rich and lovely book. I hope there will be another soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Spritz!, 5 Jun. 2007
This review is from: Spritz (Paperback)
Spritz is an accomplished debut novel rich in great charactersations. The beautifully drawn cast are especially effective because the dialogue is so convincingly realistic, even though they are in the midst of a compelling, yet crazy, plot line.

The pull of the story is irresistible, very dark and sometimes shocking - and yet wildly comical - I held my breath many times and laughed out loud regularly! (Probably good for yoga practise, I would imagine....)

I recommend this novel to anyone seeking something different, dark and very very funny.

I hope the author writes more about his main characters - I for one will cheer if he does

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insight into the world of Hong Kong Police, 12 Sept. 2004
This review is from: the Taipan Agenda (Paperback)
This is a beautifully written and intelligent novel which leads the reader into a world seen from the viewpoint of a young Hong Kong Police Inspector (pre-handover).
Containing wonderful touches of humour, this is a true page turner. With an heroic central character who demands that the reader cares about him; and it's fair share of violent, warped villains, this is a very rewarding read for lovers of well crafted, intricately plotted novels.
This author desrves a wider audience and I hope to see future novels published as soon as humanly possible!
