5.0 out of 5 stars The classic Dooms give this an edge, 13 April 2005
Doom 3, when it came out on the PC last summer was praised for its graphics and slated for its repetitve gameplay and its dark dark corridors. Finally its arrived on xbox and some of the problems have been fixed, others have not.
Firsty the grpahics hold up very very well compared with a high end PC. Obviously they are not quite as good, but consolde gamers will be amazed at what the Xbox can do. The lighting is great all over and the blood stained corridors give the game tons of atmosphere.
The souns as well is top notch all the audio files you encounter are well acted and help you to envisage the base before it was ripped apart by the forces of hell.
The pacing has also been changed for the big black box. The slow sections have been cut out and what we get is a stream lined, more action orientated game.
The overwhelming darkness still remains but it has been toned down a bit from the PC version. The flashlight is not required nearly as much and with the tweaking of the in-game settings most of the game is playable without it.
The enemy AI is nothing special, with most demons just running straight at you, but what do you expect, they're demons aint they? Not gonna be afraid of you...
The Gameplay does get a lil bit repetitve, but hey, its not all bad. If you are considering buying this game the chances are you like that still of play, so its not a huge problem.
Overall this is a great game and the added bonus of having the classic dooms on the same disc is definatly worth the little bit extra money. The case is quite cool too. Overall a 4 star game with the classic dooms making the package as a whole a 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not GTA, but still a good game..., 7 Mar. 2004
OK, so this isnt GTA, and dont buy it if thats what you are looking for, you WILL be dissapointed, but on the other hand if you are looking for a genre crossing, fun game, then i would get this. The game has 4 main elements, Shooting, Driving, Fighting and Stealth (not a big part of the game), you are kinda forced into doing these at different times, but it works well, and it helps to keep the story flowing. The story isnt bad, but isnt great either, takes a few twists and turns, but is generally ok.
I have heard quite a few people complaining about the camera in this game, but I've finsished the game and its only let me down twice. So its not really a problem. Graphiclly its nice to look at but not anything special. The cars all have different handling, and specs, and are nice to look at.
Throught the game, you have the ability to upgrade your driving, fighting and shooting abilitys, RPG style, this is an incentive for completeing the random crimes and makes the game alot easier if you have at least some of the upgrades.
So overall Im gonna give this 4 ( I would give 4.5 but that aint an option). It is a solid game, with no major flaws. I had a alot of fun with it! Enjoy!
