5.0 out of 5 stars Bright, light and instantly on, 24 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This bulb is far brighter that the more common energy saving bulbs, uses less energy and comes on instantly. I would have said that that it probably closer to an old 40W bulb, rather than the 30W that it claims. The bulb is almost the same shape as a conventional candle bulb, but is a shade heavier.

I am using this bulb in a bathroom to ensure good light for shaving a make-up.

If the lifetime estimate for this bulb is correct, then it will last almost 70 years, assuming it is on in the bathroom for an hour per day.

Please note that this bulb is not suitable for dimmer switches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small DAB/FM radio good on batteries or mains, 21 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This radio is functionally very good, it is less than half the size of most DAB radios on the market. Inside the battery cover, there is a switch to choose between alkaline batteries and rechargeable ones.

The unique selling point of this radio is that it has a rubber surround which can be replaced with a variety of different coloured options which have to be purchased separately. The rubber surround may save your radio from knocks to edges or its rounded corners.

Unlike most other Roberts Radios that I have seen, the power button is the same grey colour as the other controls and is not well separated from them and there are volume control buttons which go up and down in small steps, rather than the smooth analogue style volume knob that most Roberts radios seem to have.

The sound quality is decent, but probably not ideal if you want loud music or have noisy children nearby.

Although FM reception in our part of Cheshire is of fairly poor quality, the DAB signal gives good results, even without extending the antenna.

Overall a robust and decent radio that charges its (rechargeable) batteries while being run from the mains.

The box does not include any batteries, either alkaline nor rechargeables.

I think this black edition looks smarter than the otherwise identical grey and white edition Roberts Play DAB/DAB+/FM RDS Digital Radio with Built In Battery Charger

4.0 out of 5 stars Small Concise Guide to the city of the Little Mermaid, 15 July 2014

If you're spending a couple of days in Copenhagen, this guidebook has enough information for a range of the sights.

It has a couple of decent walking tours that loop you between Royal Palaces, gardens and the Little Mermaid very easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, bright but not harsh, 15 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This bulb is far brighter that the more common energy saving bulbs, uses less energy and comes on instantly. I would have said that that it probably closer to an old 100W bulb, rather than the 60W that it claims. The bulb is almost the same shape as a conventional bulb, but much heavier, so should probably only used for downward hanging light fittings.

I am using this bulb in a bathroom to ensure good light for shaving a make-up.

Please note that this bulb is not suitable for dimmer switches.

The Queen Of The Tearling
The Queen Of The Tearling
by Erika Johansen
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 7.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Game of Thrones, but still good fantasy., 15 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a quick paced enjoyable fantasy novel, with more swords than sorcery. Kelsea, who is to become queen, has been kept in a very sheltered exile, but when she comes to power she is determined to do the right thing for her people. This is upsetting to enemies and the regent alike. The political intrigue is far more on a "Harry Potter" level than a "Game of Thrones" but there are a several levels of schemes and and plots ticking along gently.

This is certainly aimed at an adult audience, and has a few passages which would make it unsuitable for younger readers.

There are a few contrived and unexplained "Deus ex machina" literary devices that lead to the inevitable conclusion that there are several more books due in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good strimmer, but barely adequate mower, 12 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The idea of a lightweight cordless mower has a definite appeal, particularly for areas that are difficult to reach or are at awkward angles, however it does have distinct limitations.

When used as a mower, it must be remembered that it is based on a single line strimmer, so does not cut very evenly, leaving patches of lawn as if they have had a bad haircut. The system is lacking in a grass collector, which cuts down on the weight and bulk of the machine at the expense of grass cuttings being left strewn across the garden.

As a strimmer, it is feels slightly above average weight, but being cordless it does mean that there are no trailing wires. It cuts very well, both in horizontal and vertical modes. The wheel on the front is excellent for stopping the machine from classing with walls. Like most strimmers, it is very right handed in its action.

I do like that it is very easy to adjust the height of the handle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent, illogical, tripe, 11 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
According to this, we're already perfect beings on a different plane, but come down to Earth for masochistic learning experiences to improve ourselves, even though we're perfect.

Adding to the fun, it's clearly stated that nothing we do on Earth actually matters... So follow the (il)logic of this book and murder or torture people without remorse, if you want to. It's really what the victims want and they should accept it.

Braun Oral-B PRO 4000 CrossAction 4-Mode Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
Price: 54.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Slimmer, newer variant of Braun Oral-B brushes, 7 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is slimmer and lighter than many of the more recent electric toothbrushes from Braun. It seems pretty effective, but I don't feel that there is much difference in the results from the new 3D brush head, which can be bought separately for use with existing Oral-B models.

Unlike some models, this one does not come with a travel case, but it does come with a small selection of heads and a horizontal rack for them.

4.0 out of 5 stars A blend of research, business, ninjas, swords and sorcery, 7 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tokyo Star (Kindle Edition)
The first 20% of this novel felt a little slow in its introduction of a foreign researcher's life in Japan, but its pace an storytelling quickened for the remainder of the novel, although there is sometimes too much detail of daily life.

Much of the novel follows Tannia Jones as she evolves from a talented lab researcher to a strong businesswoman in Japan whilst incidentally becoming a part time super hero to defend herself against assassins, sorcerers and ninja.

There are some good turns in the plot, but some of the transitions in character behaviour are a little strained. As characters, the key protagonists are well drawn but some of the supporting cast leave a few too many questions about their rationale.

It was an enjoyable novel which I would recommend as entertaining light reading. It has the feel that one day it could be turned into either a good action movie or a reasonable Anime, depending on which production company buys up the rights.
