If you are keen on dinghy sailing and looking for adventure, this is a book to accompany you through the summer months ahead. It has everything you need to know about handling small boats. I will certainly take my copy to France if I find the courage to take part in one of their row and sail regattas.

I finished reading this story of Nigeria's emergence as a nation with awe. A colossal amount of work obviously went into researching the involvement of West African troops in the second world war with particular reference to the story of a young Nigerian who miraculously survived the conflict in Burma .

The beautifully written tale of the girls who travelled out to India before WWII and married into the Raj. In awe of the painstaking work that went into putting the different stories together in such an entertaining way, I have recommended the biography to my ladies' book club.

I'm sure that this true story of one family's escape from tyrany will soon be made into a movie - a gripping one at that! In years to come people will be amazed to hear what the Retzlaffs and their friends went through, enduring hardship and heartbreak with fortitude and good humour. The wonderful thing for me is that I eventually made it to Vilanculos on the Mozambique coast where I found them living with their horses and bringing laughter to everyone they meet. The story has a happy ending!

This is a book you must buy - but if you are over 50, do check the print size. It is so small in this Harper Collins copy that I had to find me a large print version. I gave away both paperbacks and now have to buy more copies to take round to film studios.

This review is from: The Bellamy Bird (Paperback)
Who wouldn't love to find they'd traveled back in time and were able to solve the mystery that changed family fortunes! If you've loved 'Swallows and Amazons', 'Just William' and Agatha Christie's Poirot stories, this book is for you. It's charming and would make a great present for young readers, I'd say from the age of about 9 to 90.
