2.0 out of 5 stars NO WAY JOSE MAY BE A BETTER TITLE., 13 Oct 2007
This review is from: No Way Back [DVD] (DVD)
Russell Crowe cannot live forever on the merits of "Gladiator" and therefore he should put a bit of an effort into his career. This second rate, less than a "B" movie is not the vehicle to transport him to the forefront of media adoration, the immature script and over played fight scenes leave nothing to be desired. Frank Cappello not only wrote this junk but also directed it, the producers should be shot!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING., 6 Oct 2007
This review is from: Keeping Mum [DVD] (DVD)
When I first heard about this film I was very dubious, Black Adder 1&2 were brilliant and Thin Blue Line extremely funny but Mr.Bean left me disappointed as did Black Adder 3. Other movies in the Rowen Atkinson stable such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and Jonnie English have proven to be talking points if nothing else.
Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised as this superbly clever and very, very funny film unfolded, Maggie Smith can do no wrong for me, she is one of the best actresses of the current era and is not afraid to take on any part.
I will not submit spoilers and so you will have to watch this one, it is well worth it.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil [DVD] [2000]
See No Evil, Hear No Evil [DVD] [2000]
Dvd ~ Richard Pryor
Offered by DVDBayFBA
Price: £3.95

5.0 out of 5 stars ARE YOU BLIND, CAN'T YOU SEE I'M TALKING TO YOU?, 24 Sep 2007
If you have a vivid imagination and an incredible sense of humour, then you are halfway to understanding how funny this film is. Made in the heyday of the late Richard Priors' career it is an almost satirical look at the afflictions of the blind and deaf. Fortunately it does not cross the line(I know because I am 75% deaf) and therefore is very funny.
Wally (Richard Prior) and Dave (Gene Wilder) are witness ????? to a murder, Wally didn't see it and Dave didn't hear it but they are both wanted for it. The real killers (no spoilers) and the police are after them so they take the law into their own incapable hands and the results are incredibly funny. Only the team of Prior and Wilder could have made this film as hilarious as it is because they have that special rappor that works beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars 22CT ADVENTURE, 24 Sep 2007
This review is from: Mackenna's Gold [DVD] [1969] (DVD)
I first saw this film at the cinema in 1970 and 37 years later it is just as good. A fist full of great actors and a story that everyone dreams about is the ideal recipe for one of the best movies of the era. The plot is simple... pure, naked greed... the story of the lost Adams, the canyon del oro, the hidden mine of Inca gold etc.
It all makes for a fabulous adventure in the mould of the classic Saturday Matinee that left thousands of movie goers breathless.
Yes Indiana! this is where you found your inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOTCHA SUCKERS!!!!, 24 Sep 2007
This review is from: Bowfinger [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Every time I watch this I find new moments to laugh at, it is, without any argument one of Steve Martins best films. His portrayal of Bobbie Bowfinger, an unsuccessful film director desperate to make a hit movie is brilliant. The ingenious methods employed by Bowfinger to con his cast into believing that mega star Kit Ramsey, played by Eddie Murphy, is taking part in the film they are making will leave you in stitches.
I don't want to use spoilers so it is difficult to say more without giving the game away, just go out and get it you will not be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars A VERY SURPRISING MOVIE., 24 Sep 2007
This review is from: True Blue [DVD] (DVD)
I must admit that I am not a great fan of Tom Berenger, in fact, I don't rate him as a film star, more of a supporting actor if you know what I mean. Therefore I was not really expecting much from this film, as usual T.B. was slow and wooden although his portrayal of detective Rem Macy is about as good as I have ever seen him act. The performance from Lori Heuring was not Oscar material and was at times rather like watching a school play. But! having ripped it to pieces, I must now say that the remainder of the cast were very good indeed, especially Barry Newman. The film unwinds just a little too slowly so one is left thinking that its going nowhere then suddenly the whole film is turned on its head and a brilliant twist is twisted again and again until the truth comes out. A very good film but only to watch once 'cos when you know the outcome it becomes a slow boring movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars LOST FOR WORDS, 19 Sep 2007
This review is from: The Tunnel [2001] [DVD] (DVD)
I spent all day trying to think of one good thing about this film, sadly I failed. Daniel Baldwins' debut as a director is a total failure, the wooden acting from the cast is a result of his inexperience and his own acting leaves a great deal to be desired in this pathetic piece of rubbish.
The storyline held great promise and in the right hands would have produced a very good film. Unfortunately the script writer managed to destroy all possibilities with some very, very bad dialogue. The film has little flow and is therefore confusing in parts.
Generally a film to avoid at all costs.

2.0 out of 5 stars MIND NUMBING NONSENSE., 16 Sep 2007
I love epics, the longer the better and if it's Ancient Greece, all the better still. Try as I did (twice) I couln't get into this film at all, it left me frustrated and bored. The whole thing is disjointed and stupid, the battle scenes are pathetic, just dust and noise with everything shaky and out of focus. The character of Alexander is way to weak to be the conquering hero of such a massive empire and in this version it may well have been better to call him Queen Alexandria. It is a real pity that such a mind blowing cast could be relegated to such a mind numbing film. Go back to the drawing board Mr. Stone you have far greater talent than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars SHOULD BE RENAMED SLEEPING PILL., 16 Sep 2007
This review is from: Sleepwalkers [DVD] [1992] (DVD)
What a crock of crap, I have been more frightened watching the till slip print out at the supermarket (AND BELIEVE ME THAT CAN BE SCARY).
Stephen King is far better than this, in fact, it is hard to believe that he actually wrote it, maybe he was sleep walking at the time. An extremely silly film that should have never been released let alone sold. The cover states that Sleepwalkers is a slice of terror beyond your wildest dreams, I consider this to be misrepresentation as nothing could be further from the truth.

4.0 out of 5 stars HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST (sorry, couldn't resist it), 16 Sep 2007
This review is from: Evolution [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
I love this film, it has never failed to make me laugh and its' simplicity is the key to its' success. No deep thinking, no intricate plots and no reality. An absolute no brainer with no pretences, just good fun and light hearted humour. Those few of you that couldn't see the humour try the head and shoulders enema, it may clear your vision.
