4.0 out of 5 stars Fan of the Series., 22 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Bauhaus (Paperback)
The Taschen basic art series are bargain books. The quality of the images and text are amazing value for the price. This particular book provides a great insight into the the Bauhaus movement.

For those wishing for a more indepth look into the movements influence on the modern world other reads are more suitable. This book however is a cheap book perfect for developing an understanding of Bauhaus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daily Sample, 22 Aug. 2010
This review is from: 10,000 Years of Art (Paperback)
This book put simply is the perfect flick through book for a desk or coffee table. A quick flick thorugh can remove the boredom of an idle 5 minutes whilst you read a short info snippet below a high quality image of the artwork.

From Monet to Repin, and Jasper Johns to Duchamp. The most influential works sit alongside works by lesser known artists such as Andrew Wyeth. His painting Winter 1946 is a chilling image which is the highlight of this book for me.

Whilst the books title is 10,000 Years of Art this book offers only a limited number of pieces from 8,000BC to 0AD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Economics for Dummies, 22 Aug. 2010
This book offers a simplified view into the basics of economics.

Each idea is expressed with a real world illustration to aid understanding. Couple this with the correct economic terms, phrases and economic history information and you have a well founded read that offers a great insight into the world of economics.

Ideas such as rents and cost differentiation, perfect markets, etc are all expressed.

Whilst this book is primarily an educational text it is an easy read and a background knowledge of economics is not necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hockney's Intellect, 7 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Hockney's Pictures (Paperback)
Hockney, noted to be Britain's favourite artist has produced some fantastic works in his life so far.

Hockney's Pictures offers a beautiful insight into some of his greatest works. Divided into different sections of his art, the quality of the prints are amazing. I recently visited Nottingham Contemporary to see a selection of the images in person, and was surprised by the depth of colour and precision of the images in the book.

The Portrait section is the definite winner for me. The loose pencil sketches, paintings and line drawings all seem fresh from Hockney's hand. The painted work in particular have a living glow, and i do feel the works are looking out from the paper.

A Definite buy for anyone wanting a collection of Hockney's work in a perfectly sized book with minimal but valued text.
