5.0 out of 5 stars This is a beautiful impressionistic journey into an altered mind, 15 Dec. 2014
This is a beautiful impressionistic journey into an altered mind.It has the grace, ambition and sensitivity to represent its subjects journey from the depths of being submerged in the aftermath of the stroke to the light of triumphant survival. It is truly humbling, disturbing and alive. It repays repeated viewing and is both a bravura and brave piece of film making. Its subjects are heroes and we are all the better for knowing them.Falling and laughing, indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Realised Vinyl Release, 14 Oct. 2013

This acutely plangent record arrived today. If you care about vinyl sound, then you will love this pressing. Emily's voice is so directly recorded that the room feels filled with its urgency. There's almost no surface noise, just the warm clarity of the instruments surrounding the listener. 'I hope I know...'

5.0 out of 5 stars Stimulating Sonnetry, 27 Nov. 2010
This is a hugely enjoyable read, bringing the sonnets alive to modern readers; a passionate and engaging polemic which was disastrously misunderstood by Adam Mars Jones in the Guardian/Observer.Really worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars pixel perfect, 2 Jan. 2008
This review is from: Exposure (Paperback)
This sharply cut novel is diamond in the rough of today's fearful literature. It echoes Fitzgerald's 'The Beautiful and the Damned' in its themes and in its bravely distilled prose. The exposure of the title is a microscopic examination of the lies and sacrifices it costs to maintain an ultimately worthless public image in the narcissistic moral whirlpool of upper middle class England. The writing constantly demands respect. This, like the author's first novel, 'An Empty Room' is a pleasure to read.
