Thankyou for....MAMMA MIA!, 28 Sep 2008
I've been to see this movie at cinema twice and that's the first time I've ever done that! I love it and could have gone more. I haven't got a clue what's been in the charts over the last few month because all I have listened to the "Mamma Mia!" Soundtrack (which is incredibly sad and something I should be embarrassed to admit) but I love this film and hope it becomes one of the legendry musicals that are still loved 20-30 years later.
The most spectacular performance of the film has to be Meryl Streep's, before "Mamma Mia!"the only other film I had seen her in was "The Devil Wears Prada" so was shocked at the contrast from the subdued, icy character of Miranda Priestly. She has an incredible talent to make the audience laugh, cry and pull them into each scene. It's incredible how much emotion is conveyed when she sings "Slipping Through My Fingers" and "The Winner Takes It All".
Julie Walters had me in hysterics, from the very first scene on the boat - Loved her character! However controversial this will sound I enjoyed it when Pierce Brosnan sang, I'm no music expert so whether it was simply because it was him I'm not quite sure, but I don't think the film needed his character to have a great voice, Meryl and Amanda Seyfried more than made up for that. I thought he was brilliant and very brave, especially in the end credits, hilarious.
I smiled the full way through it and walked out the cinema on a high, best feel good film I've ever seen.
