Well, I feel like I've been waiting ages to read the next Alex Marwood book after being thoroughly gripped by The Wicked Girls- if it's possible this is even more accomplished and is a fantastic read that literally made my jaw drop on more than a few occasions!

Imagine a Maeve Binchley novel about a large house split into different bedsits and their seemingly separate lives become interwoven reaching a warm fuzzy conclusion. Now imagine Maeve has received a blow to the head and believes she is now Stephen King. Although Marwood shares King's talent for frightening the bee-jeezus out of you and a talent for suspense, The Killer Next Door feels more anchored into a reality and a dark world that actually does exist but we turn a blind eye too. Each character feels well rounded and as important as the next and each story just as gripping. The book has a strong social stance too that is intelligent and thought provoking as well as supplying the crime reader with everything they love about the genre. Oh well, I finished this book in two days and now I am waiting for the next!

This book is a fantastic read - characters that are wonderfully drawn and well rounded. I love Serena Mackesy's books - like with Hold my Hand its a story that cleverly draws you in to a world similar to that of Jane Eyre,The Woman in White and The Turn of the Screw but in a modern setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!, 7 Mar. 2012
This review is from: The Wicked Girls (Kindle Edition)
This book is an absolute page turner and a real thriller - but so much more than that. Alex Marwood shows real understanding for the psychology behind criminal types and their motivations. The writer evokes characters that are living and breathing and really transports you to their world. The Wicked Girls is incredibly atmospheric, drawing you into the winding dark lanes and seedy underbelly of a crumbling seaside town and the lives of the people that live there. I think this book would make a great tv series or movie. Very much looking forward to the next one!
