The Next Always: 1/3 (Inn at Boonsboro Trilogy)
The Next Always: 1/3 (Inn at Boonsboro Trilogy)
by Nora Roberts
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, 1 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Possibly the worst book I have ever read. Virtually nothing happens. Pages upon pages are devoted to describing tiles or doors or bedrooms in the inn. It reads like an advert. All the characters, with the exception of the cartoon bad guy are sickenly nice and speak to each other in (failed) repartee. Imagine the worst rom-com you have ever seen. Imagine someone turned that script into a novel. This is way worse.

Absolutely terrific. I do not know how anyone could give this book less than 5 stars. Incredible research and manages to maintain the element of suspense to the very end, despite the fact that the outcome is known.

Disappointing. The book doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know. Page after page are simply devoted to quotes from various players (largely culled from other biographies) telling us he was a great player and a nice guy. Much of the stuff is repeated over and over.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing ending, 26 Jan. 2014
This review is from: The Abominable (Paperback)
Really well written and stylish book which unfortunately descends into farce. Absolutely ridiculous ending spoils an otherwise very entertaining read. The last part of the book is just downright silly and frankly annoying, having invested a serious amount of time in the book. Still 2 stars for the first 500 pages or so.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 6 Oct. 2012
This review is from: The Governor's Wife (Hardcover)
I've read some of his previous books and liked them. This is a poor effort though. Describing the characters one-dimensional would be an insult to real one-dimensional characters.

2.0 out of 5 stars Let down by poor song choices, 2 May 2011
This review is from: Guitar For Dummies (Paperback)
I've previously read a few Dummies books (non music) and found them very useful. The problem with this book lies in the songs selected as learning pieces. They are really old fashioned - Streets of Laredo, Kumbaya, Swing Low sweet Chariot for example (and the others are no better). I found them very offputting and I was not inclined to put any time into them. There are lots of easy songs around that could bring out the same learning points that anyone would have more interest in learning. Frankly this ruined what would otherwise be quite a decent book.
