4.0 out of 5 stars a worthy book for the true novice, 25 Nov 2003
i bought this book as a gift for a sales-buddy of mine who is cross training in the technical aspects of his work - i guess to rasie his earnings potential
i flicked through and was impressed (as always) by the layout, copy and appropriate level of detail that a Cisco tome provides
if you know more than nothing, this book is wasted - for a complete novice i would recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars great cd and a FREE DVD !!!, 25 Nov 2003
although not technically true, for the price of a CD you are getting an audio and visual experience well worth the ca$h.
having been a fan from the early days, and being deeply naffed off with the dead-pan ham and spam festival DVD (fans will know what i mean) at last - a DVD worthy of their creative talents.
having seen them live a couple of times i can safely say that the DVD captures the spirit of an LP bash, despite the John Woo style slo-motion from time to time.
reason for 4 stars and not 5 ?
excluding the track "my december" (which when played out live just makes you shed a tear, chester's true talent springs forth) from a live set, when many old school fans love this track to me is a devilishly frustrating omission.
despite this minor whine, this pack rocks !
buy it,
play it,
love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars simple solutions in a complex world, 21 Nov 2003
pro tools is rocket science, we all know it.
this book guides you through the basics, in an effective and viable way.
it won't turn you into an overnight expert, but the foundations will be effectively lain.
worthy to be associated with the king of production software.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a teaching book, a memory jogger !, 21 Nov 2003
if you know exchange 2k, buy this book. it jogs your memory for those litte tasks that you know how to do, but can't get them from the tips of your fingers onto the mouse and keyboard.
if you don't know exchange 2k, you wont learn it from here unless you are very familiar with messaging concepts and are perhaps cross-training from other technologies.
as a gen-you-wine consultant in real life, i find the size perfect for my already overloaded laptop case and those rounded edges stop you from slicing your hands when digging around - how thoughtful
useful, suitable, good to have around - it does exactly what it says on the tin
admins - buy this book
novices - good luck !

4.0 out of 5 stars lives up to its self-proclaiming expectations !, 7 Oct 2002
if you enjoy a good parody (bored of the rings, et al) then windmill into this one.
as a j.k.rowling fan (although not describing her in gushy terms as all seem to) i found this tome entertaining, topical (if you catch my drift), and humourous as every opportunity.
"mistakes are intentional" (sic) is proclaimed at the very beginning "they are jokkes" - sets the pace which is maintained and does not disappoint.
fantastic references to the "real thing", true tongue-in-cheek stuff, with an hilarious plot which just makes you wonder from time to time who created who...
