I used to work in Hatton Garden, so thought that it might be interesting to read the history of the area. as its some 35 years since I finished there. I found this a well written and researched book, a fascinating walk through the past.
Some of the places I remember, it also seems to have changed massively in the intervening years a thoroughly engrossing read and worth the five star recommendation.

I read this book quite a while ago and found it truly eye-opening its an amazing book about the greatest second in command a club could have ever had a man who worked day in day out with the greatest team ever to pull on the red shirt of United the story gets right into the character of the man who shaped the great United teams of the 50's and 60's a must read for all red fans to get the history of the club and this under-rated man. As with some of his other works the author gets right under the skin of his subject a truly great read about a great man

5.0 out of 5 stars great read, 10 Aug. 2012
as a life long united supporter just too young to have seen the babes books like this and Toms other book (Forever a babe) help to illustrate the history of our club this is written from the heart and shows the men inside the red shirts you almost feel that you have met the boys and seen the matches as Toms descriptions are so vivid as the previous reviewer said you are transported back to black&white Manchester and i agree totally this is a must read book for all United fans who want to know more about the clubs great past not just the glorious present & future

This review is from: The Cruel Sea (Kindle Edition)
I have been waiting for The Cruel Sea to be published on kindle for over a year, To find it at last has made my day. It is my favourite book and written by a master of his trade. The characters are so real that you find yourself caught up with them. it is a fantastic read i had a paperback copy of this book and almost wore it out. You almost feel the atmosphere of what life on a small ship must have been like, You can smell the sea, You almost feel the roll of the sea. Iam only sorry that I cant give this book,A story of men against a common enemy, The cruel, cold, unforgiving sea more than five stars.
