5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and useful, 2 Jan 2012
Bought this for my wife as she travels a lot for her job and we have been through various Bluetooth headsets over the years. This was so simple to set up (automatically) and it works perfectly to take and receive calls with her iPhone 4. Unfortunately it doesn't work quite so perfectly as a broadcaster for music as, although the quality is good over the radio speakers, the frequency it is set at sometimes matches the local signal for Radio 2. Nothing wrong with that station, you understand, but when she's trying to listen to an audiobook, it's quite frustrating!

Would definitely buy one for my car if I drove any distance

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and fascinating, 11 Feb 2010
This review is from: Finding Forrester [DVD] (DVD)
Finding Forrester isn't one of Connery's better known films, but it is one of his better performances. He plays a reclusive author who is gradually brought out of his shell by a young black student with a real gift for literature. The interplay between the two is the most interesting part of the film and the growing sense of friendship is really well portrayed. Any fan of Connery's would be well advised to watch this film

5.0 out of 5 stars Vivd in detail and plot, 15 Aug 2009
This review is from: The Russian Concubine (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - the depth of character built by the author was fascinating and managed to protry the emotions of the exiled White Russians during this deeply interesting and confusing time in history. The title is perhaps a little confusing to start with and it leads you to start looking for the concept of a concubine, which isn't really what the book is about. However, once you get engrossed in the characters and storyline the plot moves in wonderful circles around the main players. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive drama series for the more mature!, 25 Mar 2009
We love this series and have yet to miss one on TV, but wanted the DVD to back it up to watch some again! This show is far more subtle than some others out there and the interplay between the characters is fascinating, with shifts in language and mood beautifully written. The cast is very strong with Sally Field excellent playing the over-protective and archetypal stay-at-home-mum. Very highly recommended - be warned, don't start this one in the middle - take the time to watch the first episodes as the rest really won't make sense!

4.0 out of 5 stars Moving film about civil rights, 4 Mar 2006
I saw this film on TV and I was very moved by the story of two yong people who were in love and got married. The problem with it is that he was white and she was black and they lived in Virginia in the 1960s. The story revolves around the couple's attempt to be together with all of the racist attitudes which existed at the time.
Mixed up with all of this is the civil rights movement of Martin Luther King Jr and his historic march on Washington in 1963. The film is all about the fight for justice mixed with the love story.
I can totally recommend this film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Stunning - a different style of music, 23 July 2003
This review is from: Fado Maior (Audio CD)
For those of you who like the blues, Fado is the Portuguese version. I first heard this CD in a bar in Lisbon in October 2001 and was immediately struck by the haunting vocals of Katia. She was relatively unknown in Portugal at the time and I had to hunt for the CD when I went to the shop the following day in Lisbon. One of my particular favourites is no. 10 'Minha Lisboa de Mim' which is beautiful. Unfortunately I don't read Portuguese and so don't understand the cover notes, I really recommend this CD - try it and you'll understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable fantasy escapism, 11 Mar 2001
This review is from: Black Gryphon (Paperback)
Having previously read books by Mercedes Lackey, I had some idea of what to expect. This book is a really good read, what might be termed a page-turner! The characterisations of the main players are excellent, from the Griffons to the healers and mages. It's a world that one could get lost in!!

The Bear and the Dragon
The Bear and the Dragon
by Tom Clancy
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best, 30 Dec 2000
If I was writing a school report for this book, I would write 3 for attainment and B for effort. One of the things I like about Clancy's writing is the chance to get involved in the characters.
Also it has to be said that his complete myopia when concerning America's natural superiority over all others is amusing (occasionally annoying and patronising!) I'm sure he doesn't need to keep on reminding us of the various acronyms involved, but then, he always has! I did enjoy the book, but echoe the comments of others, it really is not his best!!!
