3.0 out of 5 stars Drifting, 2 April 2011

This drifts beautifully through a Saturday afternoon when you've been left to babysit the dog. It must be difficult to shake off the influence of Kate Bush if you are a female singer/songwriter, but having said that "It Might Like You" develops KB's influnce with fantastic arrangements and a voice to die for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be afraid of the Disco tag, 17 Feb 2011
This review is from: Definitive Groove: Chic (Audio CD)
People always want to categorise music into simple terms, moreso when it's music made by black musicians. To lump in Chic with say, the Village People, is just plain wrong. The arrangements, musicianship and even lyrically Chic are a million miles ahead of much of the music made in the 70's and 80's.

5.0 out of 5 stars English Weather, 8 Feb 2011
This review is from: Third (Audio CD)
I wish I could relive the first time that I listened to this on my headphones. Rushing back from the record shop almost frightened that it wasn't going to live upto expectations. But it does it so does! Portishead have channeled dark metal, post rock into their mixer and produced art. Beth Gibbons voice is incredible riding over the drone and beats. Although their influnences appear to be American this is English music at its zenith.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheever this isn't, 31 Dec 2010
This review is from: How it Ended (Paperback)
These stories really are crumbs off the McInerney table. His attempt to create a Cheever/Fitzgerald landscape of empty, decadent, American lives full of ennui just isn't sucessful. Instead the boredom is just in the reading. Stick to the novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars MEATY BEATY BIG AND FUNKY, 1 Dec 2010
50 (ok 48 then) of priceless soul, funk, psychedelic groovesome belters from the pens of (mainly) Holland Dozier & Holland-the engine room of Motown records before going out on their own. Many of these tunes have permeated popular musics' psyche. Stick this on and prepare to eh 'get down' This music covers all the bases.

4.0 out of 5 stars samsung r0, 1 Sep 2010
Sound's really good, interface is intuitive but dull, with the type of graphics you would expect to find on a childrens toy. If you can find it for under say £60 then well worth it. PS any existing users know how to put tunes on the SD card?

Nice for twiddling your toes to in the back garden on a sunny day. The more I listen to it the more I can see much of it being covered by inoffensive singers such as Connie Bailey Rae or Norah Jones maybe?

5.0 out of 5 stars HEAR my dear, 13 April 2010
This is a really thrilling record, full of yearning, bathetic soul interspersed with the must delicious, at times bonkers Funk. You have to experience the slighty deranged funk of Funky Space Reincarnation to help you see another dimension of Marvins genius.

Wine bars, adult dinner parties and chill out rooms across the country rejoice here is your new soundtrack. Nayo has a voice which has echoes of Bailey Rae and Tracey Thorne with a jazz lite backing, without any edge whatsoever. If she gets airplay on Radio 2 etc she is going to be huge.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jonny spreads his repertoire, 29 Dec 2007
This review is from: There Will Be Blood OST (Audio CD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lovely piece of music but probably wouldn't find its place in the homes of 90% of the the people who will buy it had it not been composed by Greenwood. This is as far away from Radiohead as you can get, I would have expected him to have dabbled in left-field jazz possibly rather than orchestral based soundtracks but as in the case of Radiohead there's no way of second guessing what they or he will do next.
