5.0 out of 5 stars SRV & DT Blaze In Florida....., 3 Feb. 2007
This, my friends, has to be one of the best-kept secrets in Stevie-dom! A

little timeline info to start with; When this MTV Show was recorded it had

just been over 5 months of Stevie's sobriety. The bands reputation had

taken a hammering due to inconsistant shows, they had changed their

management and found that they were in the hole for a fair few dollars -

the only way to get through this was to tour like crazy. This was the

point when Stevie had took his life by the scruff of the neck and really

decided to live, act and perform like every day was his last. Every

moment was precious...every song could actually be his last. He had

cheated death and was going put his heart and soul into everything he

did...

Consequently, this gig, from Daytona Beach Florida on 25th March

has Stevie and the boys playing their hearts out! It starts with a

great 'Soul To Soul' and features a handful of songs that I had never

seen played on DVD before, namely 'Lookin' Out The Window','Look At

Little Sister', 'Superstition' & 'Willie The Wimp'. Stevie doesn't play

it safe, there is no 'Texas Flood', 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' or indeed

'Pride & Joy', but what you do get is the most amazing performance of

'Ain't Gone N Give Up On Love' that is done pure 'Texas Flood' style..

it really has to be seen to believed!

As far as i'm concerned, this is up there with 'Live @ The El Mocambo'

show as one of the best ever! The picture quality isn't as pin sharp as

I would have hoped and there is no DTS on here but the tone and playing

is just sublime....

Just buy it, listen to it, watch what happens and let your jaw fall

to the floor. I know it made me wanna pick up my guitar and play straight

afterwards!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back Home In Austin,TX 1983 & 1989 Blastin', 10 Dec. 2006
Well what can you really say? The guy and band that started the 'new

blues' craze in the early 80's at home in Austin on 2 amazing concerts!

The first one Stevie sure does look nervous and it's quite funny to

see him playing 'Pride And Joy' on ol' 'Red' instead of his #1 ! Stevie

and the boys are really blasting away, especially on his cover of 'Voodoo

Child (Slight Return)' where he builds and builds. That's the thing about

Double Trouble ; they have a real awareness of dynamics. The show has

been out on video before but, with a great picture transfer, and

excellent sound, you can pick out all the little nuances that fueled SRV

& DT. As they say, the attention is in the details....

The second show, some 6 years later is quite a relevation. You notice

just how much Stevie's 'sound' actually changed but still sounds like

the great man. This is one hell of a show! The band (completed at this

time by Reese Wynans on keyboards) are on fine form. Appearing relaxed

and comfortable in their homestate surroundings and displaying the kind

of purity in their music that can only come from a well-oiled, road

worked in blues band, they play the hell out of 'TightRope', my fav SRV

song, and with real fire under 'Leave My Girl Alone' & 'Cold Shot' you

just know that you're getting to see a band in it's prime.

The band are squeezing every last drop of sweat and emotion out of their

instruments. This is a really good, and inexpensive way, to get a

real taster for SRV & DT...for the rest of us it's time to sell those

video's and upgrade...because like 'Live From Austin Texas', you're

worth it....

5.0 out of 5 stars Tone To Die For..., 4 July 2005
This review is from: Ah Via Musicom (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest guitar-based albums in the last 30
years! As far as i'm concerned he's right up there with Jimi
Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan...From start to finish it's an epic !
'Cliffs Of Dover' was the instrumental that won him a Grammy
Award for 'Best Rock Instrumental'...also went top 10 in the
States...'Desert Rose' is a great pop/rock song.... 'Steve's
Boogie' is a great Country Instrumental...'Righteous' is a
great blues track.....'Fourty Mile Town' is a brilliant ballad.
'East Wes' a cool jazz track....great,great,great....
Forget 'Texas Flood',forget 'Passion & Warfare',never mind
'Surfing With The Alien'....this is the real deal....THE
Guitar album of the 90's....listen and weep, this guy
really does burn! What a tone,what a style,what a great set
of songs...what a voice...Eric Johnson has it all..a unique
performer and very much a hero...
Do yourself a favour and try it..there's something here for
everyone...you'll be smitten too !

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Johnson : Guitar Legend., 4 July 2005
This review is from: Live And Beyond (Audio CD)
Guys, you gotta buy this This is the best live album released
in the new millenimum ! This, for me,was the album that turned
Eric Johnson from a great guitar player into the best living and
breathing player on the planet!
The album was famously recorded live, over 3 dates
at 'Antone's' in Austin,Texas....With a lot of the parts totally
improvised, what you get is the real calibre of a tight band and
a great guitarist...
From the 1st few notes,Eric's famous 'Koto Effect',
on 'Zenland',you know that you're hearing something great! With
'Last House On The Block',the, band Alien Love Child, simply out-
gun Clapton & co from Cream...then you get it...this is Cream
updated...Highlights are too many to mention really.... the
blues-rock of 'Enzo Shuffle',the JLV track 'Don'tcha Know' with
Malford Milligan on vocals, the John Lee Hooker tribute 'The
Boogie King' and the pop-rock of 'Shape I'm In'....a great album
from top to bottom....armed only with a '57 Strat and a '65 335
the tones that this guy can get are astounding!
The Tone Star From The Lone Star's done great ! Just buy, buy,
buy...you're in for a treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bloomin' Johnson !, 4 July 2005
This review is from: Bloom (Audio CD)
It's been quite a few years now since Eric Johnson last released
an album. His last commercially available was 'Live & Beyond',way
back in 2000....
So,have I been looking forward to this record! It's 2005 and
Eric has updated his sound and style...The CD starts with the
title track,'Bloom',a retracing of his great blues style from 'Live & Beyond'...what a great track!
Eric's style is quite a combination of part Cream, part
Hendrix, part jazz and part country....to my mind he's the best
living guitarist in the world today...Not only that, but the guy
can sing too ! What a great voice!Hilights include the
aformentioned 'Bloom','Summer Jam',an excellent 're-image' of
Bob Dylan's 'My Back Pages', the typical Eric Johnson style
of '12 To 12 Vibe' (previously issued as a live track
called 'Intro Song'),the Jeff Beck style on 'Good To Me',the
great 'Tribute To Jerry Reed',with Adrian Legg and 'Your Sweet
Eyes'...this album, like his previous 'Ah Via Musicom' has a real
mix and match of styles...it flows beautifully....
The guy was a contempary of Stevie Ray Vaughan, won a Grammy
for his instrumental 'Cliffs Of Dover' in 1990 (From 'Ah Via
Musicom'),has toured with Satch & Steve Vai - and blew them off
the stage ! What more can I say ? Buy the album and believe....
Now,Eric....when are you going to tour the UK ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Serious Trouble!, 4 Dec. 2004
Concerts you never went to must include quite a few... Stevie & the boy's first trip outside the USA ? God,this is the stuff of legends!
The story goes that SRV & DT were picked to play at the Montreux festival, the only unsigned band ever to do so,by a promoter. The guy's thought that they'd give it a go and,low and behold, they played their 1st gig on an acoustic night!Needless to say that the locals were shocked at the pure electric texas blues frenzy that followed...
The crowd boo'ed them...but they played on....funnily enough that they gained a Grammy Award for Texas Flood, recorded at this concert! That the guys just grit their collective teeth and played a blinder of a gig is enough to give courage to any struggling band today...'..well,if Stevie could do it...' ect.
They came back 3 years later to headline, dragging Johnny Copeland to guest with them, and made it look all so easy....
With a documentary with Double Trouble,Jackson Browne & John Mayer, discussing the importance of the gig, what it did for the blues and what SRV & DT mean to a lot of people today just gives great weight to the collection.
An essential purchase...An essential concert...A riot in audio & vision! Buy it!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Blues Debuts Of All Time? I Think So...., 29 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Strong Temptation (Audio CD)
This is the album that most blues guitarists have been waiting
for.Since 1990,when SRV left in that horrific helecopter
accident, the guitar world has been clamouring for a new hero,
someone to show the way forward,"Strong Temptation" is it.
Whilst Johnny Lang & Kenny Wayne Shepherd have been drawing
the large crowds & big album sales,Sean has been left with what
has been acclaimed as the best debut since "Texas Flood".
From the first cut,"Strong Temptation",a funky Hendrixy rocker,
through a reading of Freddie King's "Me & My Guitar" and onwards,
this album never stops."Shame, shame, shame"?Yeah, shame indeed that
that wasn't a hit single!Sean and the band play out of their
skins. They deserve to be heard. You deserve to hear them....
