Dont buy this book if your trying to get anything done round the house etc! you can't put it down. Nick you're a top man. Full of gritty descriptions of a dysfunctional childhood and the tough environment. I laughed as he stopped the hot air balloon with a customers head and nearly cried as he described his mothers behaviour. The way Nick Saunders comes through shows a resilience that gives no one an excuse not to try in life(and succeed). One of the best books I have read in years. More, More !

See my review on Kindle. It's a rant of the first order. Arrogant and futile fantasy. We should get paid for reading it.

Very easy style to this book cataloging an enviable journey. A great insight for anyone undertaking a similar trip which is not total biking mania but includes some sight seeing and injury time in a car. You gently roll through the countries with Norm and his wife experiencing the scenery and people with their descriptive text. There are some hair raising bits throughout to counteract the easy parts. The reasons for the journey are made clear and simple. One life. My only criticism would be the current trend of making thes books in two halves so you have to buy both, I understand the commercial reason for this but it feels a bit mean spirited. Better maps would be appreciated as well. But all in all a thoroughly likeable book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old Fashioned Adventure travel at its best, 1 Jun 2014

This is a translation so is a little disjointed in places but well worth a read. Two up on a tiny 250cc bike accross terrain best approached by helicopter! The bike had been sealed by Puch to prove it would arrive without repair which it did. A fascinating view of times that have changed as they travel complete with "Plus Fours" for dinner engagements with dignitaries and Princes, along with local peasants and obstreperous border guards. Using modern equipment of panniers and even a tank bag they plodded to India often relaying equipment and even an armed guard at times. The books maps could have been better but that's a minor fault. Max Reisch and his companion went on to lead interesting lives and never lost the spirit of adventure. The book lists a biog of Max's other achievements. Totally origional and slightly crackers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Origional Idea .Pity about the Writing, 1 Jun 2014

As the title says top marks for originality but sadly the humour is repetitive ,predictable and rather immature. An easy low level read which shows us Brits in a very favourable light revealing our association with eccentricity and generosity in most cases along the way. George Mahood is a young writer so hopefully he will develop his style in time.
Probably worth half what I paid for it.

I have read this cover to cover whilst travelling Europe on a motorbike for one year. Some of the reviews I have read are rather negative and miss the point. Whatever anyone says this was an Origional and typically British humoured account of a very challenging circumnavigation of our planet. The writing is by different members of the expedition and can sometimes be a little disjointed and inconclusive, making it jump a little and hard to follow. The achievement is however amazing and you must remember these were very young lads showing great enterprise ingenuity and stupidity in equal measure! Something we as a nation need to embrace. It's a collectors piece now and out of print.
Whilst its not Bill Shakespeare in literary terms it's a lot more entertaining and understandable. Gentlemen, start your engines...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bursting at the Seams.April 2014., 2 April 2014
I am currently travelling Europe on a motorbike. I have purchased one of the mats as its light and compact. I have used it around 40 nights in six months. First off it was very comfortable but very slippery and reasonably warm. More recently and as of today it is no longer usable. The internal seams that form the corrugated surface have begun to rip apart and I now own a giant lightweight Blimp. I will admit that I have inflated it by mouth ,but even with the manufacturers pump moisture will be present in air. It's seven months old and now only fit for the bin. It's cost me around 2.00 per night to sleep on it. Not much value in that. Buyer Beware. Let's see what the supplier has to say now.....I will update this review with the outcome.
UPDATE 1June 14. The suppliers" Above and Beyond "have failed to reply to my emails. Looks like Take the money and run.
Overpriced Junk for one weekend a year use probably made in an Asian sweatshop by 12 year olds.
