Taken (Extended Harder Cut) [DVD] [2008]
Taken (Extended Harder Cut) [DVD] [2008]
Dvd ~ Liam Neeson
Offered by DVDBayFBA
Price: £2.75

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad he's not my Dad!, 1 Oct. 2014
Literally, faster than a speeding bullet Liam Neeson, overacts his way through a surprisingly entertaining action romp that doesn't give you time to scratch your head. Neeson's character has seen it all, and with a paranoia bordering on spidey sense only he can predict the dangers in store for his daughter and friend when they head off for a jolly in the back street that is 'Paris'. True to his word, they've barely got through the duty free before being targeted by human traffickers, leaving a visibly overjoyed Neeson with something to do on his weekend off.
After a quick once over with the 'Just for Men', the screen is a blur with Neeson polishing off henchmen with a brutality only matched by the grim sex slave vision of Paris, that will no doubt leave their tourist board wondering if they are aiming for the wrong crowd.
The friend and seemingly all the other attractive young girls are sent to the crack den for certain death, whilst the horse faced daughter, now drugged up and visibly in need of a good wash is apparently hot stuff for a rich sheikh. Prompted by Neeson the bidding hits 500,000! The currency is as unimportant as the unasked question of why they couldn't simply hire a willing and more attractive girl for half the money. The film climaxes with more mass murder, and amusing feats of agility from our indestructible hero who seems to have carried with him a little of the A-Team bullet dodging luck.
If you thought this was ridiculous just wait until you see the 2nd one..

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead Space 2.5, 19 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not sure what I was expecting from this game, but it turned out to be a Dead Space variant with some kewl extra weapons. The enemies are aliens and there's plenty to kill, but rather than relying on the same weapon choice throughout the game you have a great mixture of guns and energy weapons that it really pays off to switch between. The magnetic gun and the destructible scenery are fantastic. Not sure I'll get bored any time soon of slamming a metal tower down into a group of nasties, or dragging a metal shack across the screen and obliterating whatever it is that's firing at me! The other cool feature is the nano forge device which then allows you to magically rebuild everything around you that you've just smashed to pieces. This can be really useful if your running short on ammo or objects to attack with.. just rebuild more scenery to crash down on them.
The action is very reminiscent of the Dead Space 3 planet side action, even down to the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective.
Well worth a look and good fun.

Captain Phillips [DVD] [2013]

3.0 out of 5 stars Captain Hanks, 7 July 2014
The film does a reasonably good job of setting up the background of the pirates, and there's a few nice moments between their leader and Hanks. Hanks plays the heroic captain rather than all American action hero, and for me this left the film a bit lacking in bite. Definitely not a Willis/Seagal hostage romp, but equally falls short on building on the pirates character stories. Portrait as fishermen with guns acting on behalf of their bosses, seemingly without any communication or direction from them. They want money. How much? "10 million dollars" is shouted from their lifeboat towards the warship. 50 minutes to go, I wonder if they'll get it? The 2nd half of the film played out to a predicable outcome that made me wish they'd taken a different plot route.
Much of the plaudits are no doubt due to Hanks. Not as good as I was expecting.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Webisodes+, 27 Jun. 2014

I enjoyed watching this in webisode form on YouTube. You get a little bit more padding in this film version, but in all honestly it's not much more than a decent episode from BSG.
This in a 20+ season would be great.. on it's own it's a sad reminder of what you're not getting.
It's no Razor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain!, 27 Jun. 2014

Always worth spending a few more minutes hunting around for the best deal, and here it it. Cheaper than the 3 user version. I've used Kaspersky for several years now and never had a problem with viruses or system performance issues. I like the Internet Security as it allows you to pick and choose individual application internet privileges. Very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally delivers, 27 Jun. 2014

PROS: 10" tablet running Kitkat 4.4, has a 1.2GHZ Quad Core CPU, 1GB RAM, PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. 12GB ish available storage. Micro SD slot. Google Play Store.

CONS: 1024 x 552 display. Rooted Android.

Bought this as a present for my Mother. At first I was going to write it off as a serious tablet due to the screen resolution, however after using it myself for a week I'm actually really impressed with it. Navigation through the menus is smooth. It runs and streams the BBC IPlayer perfectly, and better still connects and Chromecasts IPlayer and YouTube instantly. I'm no audiophile, but to my untrained ear the speaker quality is satisfactory and loud enough to use without headphones.
I've downloaded Asphalt 8 (It's free!) and it plays and looks great on medium settings. The battery seems to be holding up to a few hours playing, and the screen is responsive to touch.
Internet browsing seems good with smooth scrolling up and down pages.

My only concern is that you have wonder how secure this rooted tablet is? I know my Mother won't be using it for any banking or shopping transactions, so it's not an issue for me.

At this price you'd think there has to be a catch. Apart from the screen resolution I hadn't found one. Lots to like about this tablet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my old HiFi system, 13 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had a problem with my old but expensive Kenwood HiFi system where the speaker sockets at the back overheated and the sound kept cutting out. The £25 spent on this allowed me to bypass the problem by hooking up a 3.5mm jack cable and connect to the speakers via this.
Nice blue light on the volume dial. Works perfectly. Glad I took had a punt on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally the technology has arrived, 13 Jun. 2014

Love this item. Wireless is the way to go, and after seemingly taking their time planning the UK release we finally have the essential Android accessory. Plug and play is alive and kicking here. After setting up the broadband connection it is up and running.
Netflix, Iplayer and YouTube all stream/set streaming easily from my Nexus 5 and also my Windows 8 laptop via Chrome.
For £30 it's a complete bargain
