3.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of Ringo, 24 Aug 2007
After the break up of the beatles, Ringo was certainly the most unlikely to have much success with a solo career. He has managed to produce a number of reasonable songs with a little help from his friends and perhaps, unsurprisingly, his best work featured contributions from his ex-beatle buddies - notably collaborations with George Harrison ('Photograph' and 'It Don't Come Easy') and John Lennon ('Goodnight Vienna'). Other partnerships have included Marc Bolan ('Back Off Boogaloo') and Harry Nillson ('Only You') - more recently Ozzie Osbourne. All his best material is probably here but my personal favourite was 'Early 1970' - Ringo's plea to the other beatles that 'if they came to town he'd love to play with them again'. This collection proves there's more to Ringo than Thomas the Tank! A long overdue best of collection for a charismatic and highly undervalued drummer.

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read, 27 Dec 2006

I read this book over Christmas and found it an interesting read. As a lifelong fan you could argue that some of the 'facts' presented here may be dubious, but its a far more balanced view than the anthology presents. I enjoyed it and would recommend it even to casual fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books about the 'quiet one', 8 July 2006

Few books on the subject of the so badly underrated ex-beatle will give you much insight into the life of George Harrison. He was the beatle who guarded his privacy more than most and so its not surprising that few knew much about him. Elliot has researched his subject well and gathered as much material together as possible to make this an interesting read from a outsiders perspective.

This book is recommended until hopefully, one day, someone who actually knew the great man personally can tell us some more about what made him tick.

John, Paul, George, Ringo and Me
John, Paul, George, Ringo and Me

4.0 out of 5 stars A new perspective on the fab four, 30 Mar 2006
Tony Barrow was well-known to the beatles, being their PR for most of their touring years and writing the sleeve notes on some of their early albums. Tony tells about his personal experience of life within the frantic world of john paul george ringo and their manager Brian Epstein. It is brief but always compelling and I would recommend it to beatles fans who know the well-known facts about the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read for beatles fans, 30 Mar 2006

This review is from: McCartney (Hardcover)
I have read so many titles about the beatles and paul mccartney but liked this book and found it interesting how the author has run over some of the most well-known facts about Paul's public life as a beatle, a leader of wings and a solo artist. The familiar stories about the beatles, his wives and girlfriends, are brought together here by the author but interestingly looking at Paul's position in each case. If you want to understand why the beatles dissolved and why Paul had to break up his partnership with the other three then this will prove a remarkable read. Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lennon's life - as told by John Lennon, 17 Dec 2005
This film is about John Lennon's life - as told through a collection of film clips, some previously seen, but many from the private archives of Yoko Ono. Actually the film is threaded together like a documentary running in chronological order from John's earliest years, through the birth of the beatles and into the solo years and uses john's voice from film clips and recordings to narrate the story of his life. This is a newly-remastered version containing extra footage and an extra disk to the original release. Recommended for anyone interested in the life of the much-missed John Lennon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of George's best, 1 Mar 2004
This review is from: Dark Horse (Audio CD)
I'm a massive fan of the Beatles and that includes their solo work too. While 'All Things Must Pass' was perhaps George's finest work, I have never felt this one came up to standard. Dark Horse and Maya Love were good enough tracks but his voice was very weak and so many of the other songs fail to deliver; 'Ding Dong' is just so bad. I do believe that this was a difficult time for George and this album could have been so much better than it turned out. That said, I judge this as a true fan and besides, there were poor solo albums from the other fabs: Lennon: 'Sometime In New York City', McCartney: 'Wildlife' and Ringo: 'Ringo the 4th'. Frankly, I don't think George Harrison made another poor album like this as a solo artist.
