The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat
The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat

I absolutely loved James's first book and this follow up was no disappointment. Bob is truly unique, an angel in ginger fur and the bond between these 2 guys is just wonderful. I am so glad James has realised that Bob needs him, just as much as he needs Bob,and I just wish them both every happiness together for many years to come

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot recomend this enough, 16 Mar 2014

I had heard lot about this book, having followed the recent tragedy in our countryside where so many badgers have been needlessly killed, and I was not disappointed. It is absolutely beautifully written, weaving the reader into the spell of the countryside and night time vigils so you could almost feel you were there, but as other reviewers have said, it is done in an incredibly balanced way so that the reader can see the picture from all sides, to understand the perspective of both badger lovers and haters. Again like others, a couple of chapters I found very hard and upsetting to read regarding torture and persecution these wonderful animals have had to experience from humans for hundreds of years, but Patrick has done an excellent job at trying to keep any of his own sentimentality out, whilst still expressing the deep passion of 'badger feeders', and the conviction of the scientists and vets as to the real causes behind the cruelty inflicted and the issues of bTB. Even if you are someone who has had little interest in badgers I don't believe you could fail to learn and enjoy this book and realise the importance of these enigmatic creatures. The bTB issue is even more poignant now, as unbeknown at the time the book was written, the statistics on levels of disease have now been proven to have dropped far more than ascertained at the start of the badger cull, due to errors in the Defra computer system.

Any lover of wildlife and/or our countryside will find this a wonderful read, and those that aren't - well may just change their minds.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay if you have nothing else to do, 2 Mar 2014

This is a good DVD and Lee has a nice way about him and explains the exercises clearly. But I found the description a bit unclear, and had understood when ordering it that the exercises were 20 minutes in morning and again 20 minutes in evening, but in fact it is 40 minutes each, which is way too long for the average person to spend. Much preferred the Qi Gong with Dr Jian Liu Jun and Akli Hammadi, as found the exercises broken down better, more options on the menu once you knew what you were doing to cut out the chat and just more traditional, with a maximum of 30 minutes a day recommended. It also gave a good section on background, Chinese philosophy etc which was optional to watch but ideal for someone new to all this. I guess it is always a matter of preference and wouldn't want to put anyone off buying this as it is good but not sure I agree it deserves as high a rating as it has.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, 2 Mar 2014

This review is from: Qi Gong DVD (DVD)
This is exactly what I wanted - a simple easy to follow DVD, done by experts in beautiful surroundings. The menu is excellent, being very easy to follow and meaning you can cut out all the unnecessary chatter once you know what you are doing. All the movements are described and shown in detail, but then you can move to just the sequence with prompts or just the sequence to music. It has both the traditional techniques of the 8Pieces of Brocade, plus the 5 Animals, which can be done separately or together. They also only last around 30 minutes, which is ideal for me time wise to be able to fit into my day. I have only just started doing these although did do Tai Chi for a long time some years ago, but already finding the benefits again. When I was looking for a DVD to start this at home again there were 2 or 3 good ones to choose from, and although I did buy 2 the other if far too long, wanting 40 minutes both morning and again evening. Highly recommend this above others advertised

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money, 23 Oct 2013
This review is from: Law of Field Sports (Paperback)
Not worth the money for size of book - clearly written by people who just use any excuse to go shoot any living thing that moves just for pleasure. Don't waste your time reading or money buying

Whether you like the Dalai Lama, cats, or just a warm inspiring easy read this is a must. Absolutely delightful little book, with many references that will make any cat lover laugh out loud, but some real little 'gems' of wisdom from buddhist philosophy. A wonderful read, beautifully written, that will leave you with a real 'feel good' factor.

Shogun: The First Novel of the Asian Saga: A Novel of Japan
Shogun: The First Novel of the Asian Saga: A Novel of Japan
by James Clavell
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.69

5.0 out of 5 stars The brilliance doesn't age, 22 Mar 2013
I just adore James Clavell's books, having read the whole Asian series at least twice over the years. I have just picked it up again, starting in historic order and must admit I had forgotten how truly enthralling Shogun is, one of those books that although big for a novel, you just don't want to put down, and as another reviewer mentioned, justifies every word and sentence. To anyone who hasn't read these books, but enjoys a thrilling story told by a master storyteller, you really don't know what you are missing. Wonderful

They say you get what you pay for - true. Tension adjustment wouldn't work, tied itself up in knots all the time - waste of money
