4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Have I got news for you., 16 April 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There was a time when the best panel comedy show about politics was Have I got News for you. However from the creators of Whose Line Is It Anyway? is the great Mock the Week.

It is like a cross-breed of Have I got News for you and whose line it is anyway, but MTW is so much better than these two at its best combined. The DVD gives you the twenty best bits that are unedited and unseen on BBC2. They also give us three extended cuts of the best episodes in their recent series (Late 2007.) There are five comedians that are regular panelists. They are Dara O,Briain who is the marvollous presenter, Hugh Dennis who is funny especially at making voices, andy Parsons who is funny when he gets going and Russell Howard the cheeky Bristolian who is great at making animal jokes but can be a bit slow. Yet the star of the show really does shine and that is the scottish comedian Frankie Boyle who is politically incorrect but very hilarious in doing so. There are two other comedians that appear on this show which are not regulars. These include David Mitchell, Jo Caulfield and Ed Byrne.

However the DVD does feel short and I would have prefered a complete series on boxset than the best of. Also if you are not very tolerant of bad language then this is definetly not for you. I do hasten to add though that this is well worth your money as this genuinely guarantees laughs.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's more than O.K. (pretty good), 15 Feb. 2008
I have just bought this album and I think it is very good to listen to however it is not the most enticing album on the planet. From start to finish the album remained consistently good yet no track really set my candles lighting. A good debut album and hopefulyy they can improve on their first attempt next time round. They have a lot of potential. I reccomend this album if you like Stereophonics, Editors or Arctic Monkeys.

Best Track: Had Enough
Worst Track: Techdancephobia

8/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it now!, 20 Dec. 2007
This review is from: Stop the Clocks (Audio CD)
This is the first Oasis album I bought and I absoluetly loved it. They have produced an excellent collabiration of their best tracks from previous albums such as What's the Story? (Morning Glory) and Definetly Maybe. They also took the best B-sides Aquisence and The Masterplan and not only release them as singles but they are added to this album. Add the classics such as Wonderwall, Rock 'n' Roll Star and Don't Look Back in Anger, it makes this album essential to own even if you are not an Oasis fan. It truly pays tribute to their great music over the past decade and a half. The only disappointment I have with this album is that Little By Little is not on here. Apart from that. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best puzzle game on PSP, 3 Jun. 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lumines (PSP) (Video Game)
When I bought this game I was unsure if it would live up to the hype generated by gaming critics. It was cheap and I needed a pizzle game for my PSP, so I decided to get it.

And the critics and reviewers are certainly right giving it the acclaim it deserves. The main game in Lumines is Challenge Mode where you earn points to unlock new skins you can play in Single Skin Mode. The aim is to create as many 2x2 blocks with the same colour using other 2x2 blocks. It sounds really simple, especially when I mention that there are only two colours per skin to make squares with, but thats where the simplicity ends and the addiction begins. Why? Well, the reason you will get hooked into this game is because it is difficult and I do play on this game on a lot and I have not got to level 50 yet and you become determined to complete and thats where the addiction begins.

There are more modes than Challenge mode. You can play on single skin mode where you play on athe same skin for an unlimited time. There is time limit mode where it test you on how many blocks you can delete in a set time limit. There is also a puzzle mode where you are giving a frame and your supposed to delete it twice within a set time limit. You can also face the CPU in amatch where you delete blocks to gain more room to work in. The best thing about Lumines is that is a puzzle game where you can have two players where you face each other to gain more room to work in and force your opponent to the top of the screen.

The only bad thing I can say if that there is a lack of variety when it comes to music as you seem to be stuck with dance beats from unknown musicians or world music. It needs established acts within R&B, pop, inidie and rock to give the skins more variety. Lumines II apparently has Black Eyed Peas and some well known musicians so if you want real pop music get Lumines II. However if you are not bothered about the music then get this version as it is addictive and it bursts with originality. Buy it! 9/10

1.0 out of 5 stars First Impressions of The Strokes are bad, 1 Jun. 2007
I bought this album thinking that the entire album will be living up to the great singles You Only Live Once, Heart in a Cage and the brilliant Juicebox. However that was not the case as I was surprised and not in the pleasent sense. The three good tracks are the three singles I mentioned above and they are the first three tracks on the album.

And that was the only superb thing about this CD as from the fourth song Razorblade onwards everything went downhill at a 90 degree angle and crashes quicker than the stock market on Wall Street back in the Great Depression. "Ize of the world" is annoying as it mentions every word with the suffix -ize that it starts to make you want to get a compass and scratch every CD that the Strokes have released and the track "15 minutes" feel like it goes on for 15 minutes. The song "Fear of Sleep" should be retitled go to sleep as that drags for ages.

First Impressions of this album was not as good as expected as Julian Casablanca's grungy vocals just so repetitive, that this album should be called first depressions as the music is so dull and boring. Download the singles I mentioned above in the first paragraph and save yourself the money and the time on this album as that the only good thing on this album and it makes up for this targic album.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's the pick of the bargain bin!, 1 Jun. 2007
After failure with the wrestling comedy Nacho Libre, Jack Black has gone back to his old rocking roots with friend Kyle Gass to reform Tenacious D. Could this be a comedy movie that makes you laugh out loud repeatedly or will it be destined to the depths of B-Movie hell?

The answer is neither as it would be stuck in the realms of comedy purgatory, not bad but far from fantastic. The premise for this film is simple as Jack Black or "JB" finds a genius of rock Kyle Gass as "KG" become best friends then they want to find stardom so they go on and try to find "The Pick Of Destiny" which will make them legends of rock. The comedy has fun moments during this flick especially the scene where "JB" eats magic mushrooms and gets stoned and the break in to the museum was hilarious. Cameos from famous rockstars like Meatloaf as Jack's mean old dad and Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters as satan could make this film a cult phenomenon.

But, and this is a huge but, Jack Black yet again is not as funny as he used to be. Four lines into this film and he has said more f-words than an entire CD of enimem. He relys too much on swear words that the jokes that could be potentially could be funny are not and it all gets a bit too repetitve. Also Kyle Gass was not as fuuny as I expected him to be, as he seemed to be too serious in the role of palying a funny version of himself. The music is also dreadful, yet again relying too much on curse words and the creative genius of Jack Black has gone. He rhymes the song Kickapoo with f***aloo which isn't funny and doesn't make any sense. There are also too many c*** jokes that just wants you to scream in agony as you will be begging for something a little more original.

Overall, the cameos and the practical jokes make up for the quite poor performances by Jack Black and Kyle Gass. It seems that 2006 is not Jack Black's year. Tenacious D seems not to be the pick of destiny but it's sure to be destined to go straight to the bargain bin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another conteder for album of the year., 12 April 2007
This review is from: A Weekend in the City (Audio CD)
Right now on my mp3 player I am currently listening to this album. When I got this album I was a bit afraid it would be bad because I was not a huge fan of Bloc Party, but I thought it could be good. I tell you this is it is a magnificent album that you would want to continuously listen to. This album never gets boring.

However there are two of the songs that are really slow to start off with mainly, Uniform and SRXT are the slow ones but Uniform picks up the pace eventually and SRXT has a sweet ending.

That is probably the only bad thing I can say about this album. Some songs like Hunting for Witches are better than their first single which is kind of interesting for an album to have lesser known songs better than their singles. The best song is probably their second single I Still Remember.

Put it like this Bloc Party are the British version of The Killers except they are better than them. I would reccomend this album for fans of Faithless, Snow Patrol and The Killers, even fans of dance music might like some of their tracks. An essential album and I think the BRITS should take note and look at this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have won the best foreign film at the Oscars, 12 April 2007
This is one of the best films I have seen. It enthralls you from the first to the last minute of this brilliant film. Guillermo Del Toro creates a fantastic fantasy faile of a movie that is designed for adults. The story follows a girl Ofelia who is in her own little world needing support from the Faun who lives in a Labyrinth, because her pregnant widow Carmen is married to a nasty military officer who would do anything to get what he wants even murder people. Is Ofelia imagining the Faun and do gruelling tasks for help or is it real? And will it be happily ever after for Ofelia? This is one of the best, if not the best fantasy film ever, truly a fairy tale for adults. Buy this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scrubs is superb!, 12 April 2007
There have benn many of great american comedies starting with the letter "S," like the Simpsons and Seinfeld. Well, Scrubs is yet another excellent sitcom across the border. It is hard to find anything to criticise. The best and the most clever and hilarious part of each and every episode of Scrubs is J.D.(Zach Braff, the main character) mindflashes of people whether it be imagining his best friend Turk having his own musical to everybody dressed up in a Star Wars scene. Probably one of the best comedies this decade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange and fantastic, 12 April 2007
I think when you buy this album your pretty sure you do not know what to expect from this album. You have heard of their indie/alternative approach to music with the single Golden Skans. You have synths and strange music with the song Gravity's Rainbow and Magick.

Well is it good? It's better than good. In actual fact it's strangely delightful to listen to. The best song when they are not normal and more on the weird side is Alantis to Interzone which combines guitar and keyboard into one rhytmic burst of energy. When they are more on their normal side of life It's Not Over Yet is one of the best indie songs of 2007 and should have been a single, because maybe it's quite emotional or they are just more serious.

Unfortunately, if you were looking for some serious emotional indie music you have certainly coming to the wrong band as this does lack seriousness about their music. If you do not want to be mystefied by this music then yet again do not buy this album as it has plenty of synths and weird lyrics, for example their song Totem on the Timeline it goes on about Mother Teresa and Gandhi and their songs do not have meanings.

But, if you just want to be hyped up or chill out without caring what the lyrics are or you like a mix of keyboard synths and guitar music this is a great album to get. If you like Kasabian and Muse then this is your type of album. Brilliant.
