You Are Not A Gadget: A Manifesto
You Are Not A Gadget: A Manifesto
by Jaron Lanier
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.98

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and wide ranging, 24 April 2014
I really enjoyed this book. Its good to hear the argument for maintaining a core of humanism/personality in the digital world with the freedom from being labelled a Luddite. The topics are wide ranging and fascinating, delivered with authority. The author was part of the Silicon Valley boom.

A History of the World in 100 Objects
A History of the World in 100 Objects
by Neil MacGregor
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 6 Mar. 2014
Most people here seem to be disappointed with the picture quality and attack the books depth. I have found the pictures to be be more than adequate. The hardback is A5 portrait, so it is not a large glossy photographic reference of the objects but objects were not chosen for their visual beauty alone. Picture books are available elsewhere.

Regarding the content, it will always be a general and abridged approach to human history, but is an original and fascinating arc through time. The books limits are conceded by Neil MacGregor in the prologue, and by definition in the title.

All in all, it is a wonderful book for the curious mind which will take you round the world and through all of human civilisation, all in 600 pages. I think its quite beautiful, and i will definitely be investing more time in some of the topics.

Love All the People (New Edition)
Love All the People (New Edition)
by Bill Hicks
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.19

4.0 out of 5 stars what you readin' fer?, 19 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great book with a lot of archive letters and interviews with Bill including his feelings about the David Letterman censorship incident. A lot of routines are included which are very similar, which is interesting to see the development of his material, but lends to some repetition. All in all a great book if you're a fan of the goat boy. Lifts the lid a little on what he was trying to (and did) achieve through comedy.

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Price: £7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great soundtrack/compilation, 19 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Another great Tarantino album. Less of a soundtrack more of a compilation album as always, this time it has a distinct western flavour. Plenty of Ennio Morricone. Plenty of obscure gems, a dash of crooning, some country, contemporary hiphop, and a tupac/james brown mashup. Something for everyone's ears if they love an eclectic selection. Great music.
