Without doubt THE cd of 2005, 12 Jun 2005
There is little more to say than that this is undoubtly another Springsteen masterpiece.
I decided against writing an immediate review (and I would guess that some reviewers may now regret early negative responses) as with all Springsteen's work Devils and Dust improves with continued listenings and has the longevity of previous classics.
I would put this somewhere up with The Rising, Nebraska and the Wild, the Innocent and the E Street shuffle. Ok its not Tunnel of Love or Darkness on the Edge of Town but for me those two albums will never be surpassed by Springsteen or any other artist.
Standout tracks here are Reno, Long Time Coming, Black Cowboys, Maria's Bed, Leah and Matamoras Banks. That covers half the CD an the other half is impressive to say the least. The songs are lyrically brilliant and offer another musical direction for Springsteen.
I was lucky enough to attend both Royal Albert Hall shows at the end of May and these songs come across even better live.
If any of you reading this only know of the Springsteen who sung "Born is the USA" and "Dancing in the Dark" then please do yourself and take a closer look.
If you appreciate real music then you will not be disappointed.
