Delivers (almost) what it says on the tin, 7 April 2013
Definitely a great summary of important scientific, sociological and philosophical knowledge, condensed into very short summaries. Highly recommended as an accessible book that you can just dip into.

One of my favourite kitchen gadgets, 30 Jan 2013
I love this gadget, so much so I want to give it to friends too, though now it seems to be out of stock. For me it works really well on vegetables that have a greater curve than the peeler blade. Still need a flat bladed peeler to hand for large roots like celeriac and potatoes with flattish surfaces, but for things like normally-shaped potatoes, carrots & parsnips it's brilliant, and leaves you with that nice feeling you are wasting less than with a flat peeler. The potato eye/dimple remover at the end took me a little while to get to grips with but once you realise you need to stick it into the dimple and then rotate the potato/other vegetable, it all works fine.

A brilliant recording - your earlier (good) reviewers were spot on, 20 Dec 2012
I bought this on the strength of the earlier good reviews, and to prepare myself for the ENO's autumn 2012 production of Julius Caesar. I just love the recording - hard to pick out the ultimate star; in particular both Dame Janet Baker and Valerie Masterson sang superbly. The flip side was that this year's ENO production failed to live up to the promise of the recording, with several notable weak performances. Even the scene setting was dreadful, and the unnecessary dancing....

Disappointing present, 20 Dec 2012
I bought these for my grandson, aged five, who has been going on about them for ages. Sadly when he put them on, they didn't perform as expected - the mouth of the dragon only lifted slightly even when he stomped hard. Two good things have come out of this, firstly It's stopped him from going on about them, and it's planted perhaps the first cynical seed in his mind about the accuracy of adverts.

Read this if you shoot - it's very funny!, 20 Dec 2012
I loved this book - it's not high art and it's certainly got an extremely improbable story line, but the descriptions of the game shooting world were spot on - I will never see a gathering of those who pursue pheasants in the same light again The animal sleuthing added an extra plus...and there was a great ending.

A lovely listen!, 18 July 2012
As a long-time fan of Vivaldi's lute/mandolin concertos this is to me a real find - I was unaware of either Paisiello or Caudioso's mandolin concertos. More years ago than I care to document my CD of Vivaldi's concertos played by Daniel Benko (Hungaroton HCD 11978-2)was stolen (along with the CD player that it was in). Daniel's recording was in what even then was considered unfashionable in that he played the slow moveemnts slowly and the fast movements fast, which suits me as the slow movements are sooooooo romantic and the contrast emphasises this - playing all movements at break-neck pace may be fashionable but it loses so much. This CD gets as close to Daniel's style as any recordings I've heard - some really lovely playing which I'd commend to all who can set aside the demands of current fashion to enjoy music played with great feeling.

Excellent advice from a hero of mine, 6 Jun 2012
Clay Christensen has taken some key learnings from the commercial world and related them to how we plan and live our lives, extremely successfully. His prose is always easy to read and digest; the messages he relates are extremely powerful ones. Some are obvious of course, though some are novel. In reading this, I have one regret - I wish it had been around when I was younger as I can see tha there is some excellent advice for bringing children up that's a tad too late for me now!

Hard to beat the objectivity of Michelin reviews. Easy to use and in general a very accurate description of the quality of food and accomodation. I love it.

A delightful collection of music that many would love, 30 Jun 2010
This is really enjoyable classical music - modern but not impenetrable. I heard one of the 'Guernsey Postcards' on Classic FM and bought the CD on the spot half expecting that this would be the only piece I'd enjoy. Indeed, the three 'postcards' (described as a whole as a sinfonietta) are lovely and, as postcards are, all too short. But there is much more - I have enjoyed listening to both the Piano Concerto No 1 and the Symphony No 1 many times, and I am very demanding of modern music - it must be something to get one's head around without having to have a degree in the subject.

A great piece of kit, 20 Mar 2010
I wanted a precision weighing device for measuring small quantities of cooking ingredients and this does what it says, measuring small quantities accurately. It has a nice case and slips into your pocket easily if you need portability. It is easy to switch between the different measurement modes if you don't want grams. Hard to fault really - I look forward to the day I can get a satnav that works so well!
