3.0 out of 5 stars A good effort, could be much better, 14 April 2008
This review is from: Dirty Wake (Audio CD)
Discovering collapsis was a definitely an exciting experience, here were a band that seemed to appeal perfectly to my musical taste, they combine catchy guitars with an american-alternative style and a talented vocalist, they have all the makings of being great and songs such as October and Automatic really showcase their talents and leave you wanting more. The problem comes then when you don't really get a great deal more which is a real shame, overall a good album with a few highs and a few lows but great for anyone who is a fan of catchy pop-rock tunes and solid musicianship. I believe this band have now disbanded so if you like their style tget this or you could check out athenaeum who had a similar style.

5.0 out of 5 stars An all-time great, 14 April 2008
Cat Stevens really is an all-time great musician and this collection pulls together most of his great work and certainly his most well known masterpieces, the album begins with arguably his most recognisable works and the opening 5 tracks at least should be universally recognisable, this collection then continues with many more of his great songs clearly showing why he is so renound. Personal favourite tracks include 'Lady d'Arbanville' and 'Oh Very Young', overall a very good collection showcasing easy-listening music of the very best quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, try radiance first, 13 April 2008
This review is from: Athenaeum (Audio CD)
For me this album is average and doesn't display the best of the band's abilities, the album begins with 'suddenly' which is a very good alternative rock track and is my favourite off the album, the disapointment for me is that the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to my expectations, of course athenaeum are still an awful lot better than most bands out there but i was always feeling that the group could do better. If your new to athenaeum you should know that they are a very good american alternative rock band that produce catchy tracks with occasional emotive lyrics, if you want to try them out then i suggest trying 'radiance' first, if you're already a fan then i guess you can't really go wrong with this offering.

Bastard Life of Clarity
Bastard Life of Clarity

4.0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance, 13 April 2008
This review is from: Bastard Life of Clarity (Audio CD)
This CD is much better than i could ever have expected, like others i saw how cheap it was and thought why not, however, i wasn't expecting a great deal. A surprise it was then when it began, from the outset it's very listenable and sort of draws you in with the lyrics and catchy guitars, admittadly Crowe's voice isn't the best in the world but it doesn't need to be for what they have achieved here which, is a very good folk-rock album and all for a nothing price. 'Memorial Day' is a personal favourite and sticks in my head for hours after every listen. Forget the fact that Crowe is the singer and give this band a chance, you won't be disapointed, unless you don't like it, then you might be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why'd I leave it so long?, 12 April 2008
This review is from: OK Computer (Audio CD)
After being a fan of music and in particular rock music for many years i finally decided to give radiohead a chance and bought ok computer, i'm not really sure why I waited so long but they never seemed to appeal to me, maybe it was a lack of instantly catchy tunes, who knows. So i insert the CD, first listen i was moderately impressed and went and bought 'the bends', having now listened to both albums uncountable times i have really been drawn in by the radiohead spell and find every listen reveals something new, either in the lyrics or music, a new understanding is achieved, it onlys leaves me wondering why the hell I left it so long before I conceded. For people who may face the same situation the two albums mentioned are definitely the places to start and give them at least 6 or 7 listens each, if you're not appreciating the music by then maybe try 10 or 20 listens, it will happen eventually. Overall a monumental record which quite rightly is widely regarded as one of the best of all time, personal favourites are 'Airbag' and 'Karma Police'. 10 out of 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 10 April 2008
This review is from: Hold Your Colour (Audio CD)
Many people are slating this album and saying it isn't portraying true drum and bass, for me this has no consequence, i am primarily a fan of rock and easy-listening music but this album really has an edge that made me jump up and listen, the fact that it is not genre-specific drum and bass doesn't bother me in the slightest, people can classify it however they want but the only thing that matters is that it's brilliant. Slam and Tarantula are the tracks that initially caught my attention and i guess these are the more non-drum n bass tracks on the album, however, after repeated listens the tracks that really stand out now are the terminal and through the loop, firstly the terminal is a pure drum n bass tune which not even the most hardened DnB fan could surely complain about, secondly through the loop is a masterpiece, sampling gene wilder was inspirational and really gives this trach a rare quality. Overall a fantastic album that will have your head spinning, if 2008's follow up 'in silico' even comes close to this we are in for a real treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection - great value - good extras, 10 April 2008
For ross noble fans this is a real treat, you get a full 3 live shows, a highland fling documentary as well as film of ross in melbourne plus various extras and an interactive quiz, the value for money can't be questioned and the highland fling documentary is particular is very interesting. The reason for a 4 and not 5 star review however is although i believe this to be extremely funny (as everything he does is) i don't think its his very best work, however, it's still greatly entertaining and a must for any fan of the man. Following on from other reviews i personally have had no problems with sound quality on any of the additional discs. Overall a very good collection, 8 out of 10.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction, 9 April 2008
This review is from: Music Bank (Audio CD)
This box set is a collection of studio songs, live recordings and various other material, it includes all of the bands classic songs plus introduces the listener to many songs and versions of songs they may not come across in any other way. The songs themselves are fantastic and show why alice in chains are a master of their genre, however, my personal favourites are the songs taken from the unplugged session, they really show the band's capabilities and highlight all the good points about a truely great band. If this was a 3-disc set it would be of definite 5-star standard, however, the inclusion of the 4th disc is wholly unneccesary and has been reported not to of worked in many cases. Overall a great collection and a supurb introduction to any casual fan who wants to know what all the fuss is about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, 9 April 2008
This review is from: Comfort in Sound (Audio CD)
This album was my introduction to feeder's music and is the one album of their's that i keep coming back to time and again, much is made of the mellower nature of this album compared to earlier material and many feeder fans saw this as a negative, however, for me this album is perfect for my musical taste and the emotive lyrics really make this album a classic. In my opinion definitelty feeder's best and a great album for any listener who is a fan of mellower music. 5 out of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best since Gold, 3 April 2008
This review is from: Easy Tiger (Audio CD)
For me, this is the closest ryan has come to reaching the heights of Gold, it is certainly his most commercial offering since then and is full of great tunes, the differnce for me with this album is that it took me a bit longer to get into than previous recordings but now that i have i am once again truely appreciating the genius of the man, it is a definite 5 star album and for me is a huge improvement on other recent release. Adams has a quality that is hard to define, only a select few others have such a talent and it's good to see that he is fulfilling it and making the most of it.
