4.0 out of 5 stars He's watching playback & needs your souls!, 1 Sept. 2012
This review is from: Playback [DVD] (DVD)
On the cover of this DVD it says: "Ring meets Halloween". I beg to differ. It's not exactly a "Film to Die For". The movie is "nice", a bit scary at times, but not disturbing or demented. Of cause there are some elements that might resemble Ring and yes there's also a guy running around with a knife trying to kill "virgins". But all this is a film on its own.
I generally like horror and especially enjoyed some of movies from After Dark Horrorfest. Like I said this film is not bad, considering that it's a low budget movie. You can see that filmmakers tried their best to make it a decent film. I understand it's not a masterpiece of horror, but it definitely has its moments, when things get kinda creepy.
I really liked the idea and the myth that was build around it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Christian Slater starring in it as a real bad cop. Honestly I must say there was nothing that I didn't like, nothing bad. And it's most likely, because I wasn't expecting much from this film. The movie doesn't raise any questions and it's not giving any specific answers. Like why Satan needs to replace souls of normal people with his own "dark" one, where is god and so on. I personally don't want to spoil your movie experience, with explaining in depth what happened and analyzing everything. If you like low budget horror movies, than this is the movie for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken Mirror..., 1 Aug. 2012
This review is from: Mirror, Mirror (DVD) (DVD)
I used to like earlier works of Tarsem Singh, but with each movie he's making I'm getting more disappointed in him and he didn't make a lot of movies... I felt like I had to say something about this film, even though there have been a lot of bad movies released this year. But I am quite disappointed.
Anyways this move is based on the fairy tale "Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm. Yet another version even. I'm not sure why you would want to re-do Snow White, it was done sOOOOOoooo many times, unlike some other great fairy tales they wrote.
I went to see this film somewhere in the morning/afternoon screening & I was amazed that the theatre was completely empty. I was sitting alone with a friend, we were wondering why no one else came to see this move & then it hit me, this movie is just bad. It tries to be a good movie, desperately, but fails in every aspect. Visually it is quite okay, but the story is weak & the dialogue is dreadful. At some point during the movie I even fell asleep and when they started to sign I almost got sick, it was totally inappropriate...
The only good thing about this movie was & most likely will be Julia Roberts, sadly her appearance was not enough to save the film.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well..., 4 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Campfire Tales [1991] [DVD] (DVD)
The only reason I'm giving this movie a 2 star rating (not a 1) is because it actually entertained me. Although I was expecting to scared watching a horror movie, instead some of the scenes made me laugh. After that I couldn't take that film seriously. I knew this to be a very low-budget horror film & I wasn't expecting much...
I must say the script is weak & acting was also kinda stiff, in some cases. During the first story I though the actress would also be laughing out loud with me if it wouldn't a horror movie. The soundtrack is terrible as well, it actually resembles a score from some kinda porn flick from 70s or 80s. So that's all that I can say...
...but I would quote IMDB, which will give you an idea what we're dealing with: "Although writer/directors William Cooke and Paul Talbot's obvious energy and enthusiasm for the genre does result in some cheap and cheerful, unsophisticated entertainment along the way, particularly whenever the blood is being thrown around, it is the film's weak script that prevents it from being a success, with each uninspired story notably lacking any satisfactory resolution (whereas most anthologies strive to deliver a neat pay-off or cool twist ending, these tales are happy to just peter off at the end). By the fourth and final story, the least enjoyable of the bunch, I found myself seriously struggling to stay awake."
So open up few bottles of beer & prepare for some sick laughter... )))

2.0 out of 5 stars Not funny at all, or Is It Just Me?!, 18 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Is It Just Me? [DVD] (DVD)
This movie is not funny, mostly it's kinda sad. It tries desperately to be something special, but fails miserably.
If you want to see a funny movie with a similar plot check out Eating Out 3[DVD] [2009]!!!

Otherwise, if you have nothing to do & you don't mind spending some time watching a gay themed movie, then go ahead. My advise rent it before buying! It's still a decent film!

1.0 out of 5 stars Tortured Actors = Waiste of Time, 25 Jan. 2011
This review is from: The Tortured [DVD] (DVD)
Tried to watch this movie, but could bring myself to see it fully. Watched it till the middle of the film (until the actual torture, so yes you have to wait until the middle of the film to see something) and just couldn't bear any longer. It was just too boring. The Torture scenes were stupid, not torture at all. The torture is the actual movie with the terrible acting & the story ripped off from the French movie 7 Days [DVD] [2010].
So if you want to see a real good movie about torture, my advice see 7 Days [DVD] [2010]!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must see for every Bruce LaBruce fan!, 19 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I must admit, there was not so much comedy as "pornography". Although all the juicy parts are "censored" or covered up by the slogans used by political organisations. But I love everything that Bruce LaBruce makes & can't wait for the next film to hit the stores!
In short: The Raspberry Reich is a film which explores what LaBruce calls "terrorist chic", cult dynamics and the power of homosexual expression. An "uncut" version of the film has been released, titled "The Revolution Is My Boyfriend", edited by the gay pornographic film company Cazzo Film including erotic scenes edited out in the original version.
The scenes are somewhat funny when they are making "love", but the movie is filled with slogans used to convey the politics of the Raspberry Reich. It's bit strange & confusing for general audience. But if you loved such movies as Hustler White [DVD] [1996] or for that matter OTTO; Or Up With Dead People [DVD] [2008] you must certainly will love this one as well! So in conclusion if you are an open minded person, who is certain of his/hers sexuality - see this movie: rent it or buy it!

Some special features also available:
* Interviews with Bruce LaBruce & Jürgen Brüning
* Introduction by Bruce LaBruce
* Director/Producer Commentary
* Special Guest Stars: Tony Blair & George W. Bush

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Let THIS one In!, 17 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Let Me In [DVD] (DVD)
Total waste of time & to top that it's the worst remake I have ever seen!
It is so bad that I almost fell asleep during the movie. I regret spending the money for that ticket. I already seen the original sweetish version & to see this load of cr*p was just unbearable. I'm sorry, but I don't understand, what was the point in making the remake for such a movie, when it was originally released in 2008?
The original Swedish film is a romantic horror film directed by Tomas Alfredson. Based on the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist (who also wrote the screenplay for that movie), the film tells the story of a bullied 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child in Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm, in the early 1980s. There are of course some similarities, but it's a poorly produced & directed attempt of a remake. It's not that scary or interesting for that matter. So do not waste money on this DVD get the original & the best :Let The Right One In [DVD] [2008] it'll be the RIGHT choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eingelocht, 24 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Locked Up [2004] [DVD] (DVD)
It's a shame that there are too many negative reviews. Sure the movie isn't a masterpiece of cinematography, but the majority of the Gay themed movies are just like that. Cute actors, nice characters, but overall something is always missing. In most cases, there's no excuse for the terrible acting, directing, et cetera... But this movie certainly has an excuse!!!
I became aware of this movie after watching Eingelocht, (yeah, for those who don't know it by now it's porn!), most of the CAZZO film releases are good, you might say they are all little masterpieces of gay pornography as far as porn goes. So it's almost like a real movie with pornographic scenes. When I saw the trailer for Locked Up, I was quite surprised to see familiar faces. You can't forget the main character, he's so cute! So I decided to give it a chance & bought the movie on DVD. The movie on its own isn't that good, I confess, but with the original Eingelocht (which I also have on DVD) it's watchable! It completes the whole picture. It's almost like an extra DVD, but published separately.
Well, what I want to say is that you cannot blame the makers, for taking a chance & publishing this as a separate DVD release. You can see that the actors are doing their best, but everybody know not all porn actors are "really" actors & they don't really act. But at least they are trying. The good thing is, they look great at trying!
In general it depends on you! First watch Eingelocht & then give this move a chance. You'll be pleasantly surprised as well as satisfied! You could do it vice versa [watch Locked up & then Eingelocht], that way you could see the actors you liked going all the way & you don't have to imagine the rest.
^.^ ENJOY! ^.^
