Helped along with a few friends including Joan Baez, Erin Mckeown and Waterboy Steve Wickham, Thea has created an album of sparse beauty. The opening track "Old Soul" gives more than a slight nod to The Waterboys "Strange Boat" and sets the mood perfectly for an album full of heartfelt songs and sheer emotion. I dare anyone to listen to "Slow Journey" and not to be moved. Two strong contenders for song of the year can be found in "When I Get Back To Shore" and "The Lower Road". Maybe the bonus track of "You Spin Me Right Round" is not everyones cup of tea but you can easily forgive her for the twelve tracks of true brilliance that go before.

A long overdue reissue of Jason And The Scorchers debut mini album and long player. Fronted by Jason Ringenberg the Scorchers trail blazed the new country music scene of the 1980's. Blistering covers of Bob Dylan's "Absolutely Sweet Marie" and Leon Payne's "Lost Highway" stand along originals that like the aforementioned tracks sound as if they have been around since the birth of popular music. It amazes me still when i mention Jason And The Scorchers to so called fans of the country genre a blank expression decends apon their faces, then they waffle on about the likes of Gram Parsons and Ryan Adams. The first famous for being dead and being sanitised and diluted by The Eagles and the second well that's still a bloody mystery to me. Let's get back to the point here If you are not yet aquainted with these two gems from the past you are in for a rare treat and if you are just a fan looking for a nostalgia trip you have every right to feel smug that you knew all along that this was the greastest country band that ever rocked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unsung Hero., 26 Jan 2008
This review is from: Best Tracks 1979 (Audio CD)
I'm not in favour of writing reviews before albums ars released but i have heard this album. This is a great introduction to a true maverick of the country music scene. This is an overview of Jason's work without the Scorchers whom if you don't already know were one of the best things arbout the 1980's. Soul, wit, charm, grace and a true sense of what is just and fair can be found throughout this collection. Mr Ringenberg is capable of penning great songs one of the finest being "Tuskegee Pride" which is a fine tribute to those brave airmen. If you love country music with loads of soul you should own this album this is one of the finest collections you will ever hear. Ok maybe the Farmer Jason tracks are not everyone,s cup of tea but if your on a bummer put on the version of Merle Haggard's "Rainbow Stew" and you'll be having a happy hoe down in no time. Great songs sung by an unsung hero.

I bought this album when it first came out and i still keep returning to it. I tried to get a few of my mates into it but they were too steeped in britrock and americana. I'm sure that through time this album will get the recognition it deserves. Love, loss and lust have never sounded so good.Hefner can be softer than Belle and Sebastian and rock louder than Oasis. Discover this album keep the secret to yourself but tell everyone.

Dwight does justice to the memory of Buck Owens. The singing and playing on this album is fantastic and captures the energy and vigor of early Yoakam work. A special mention to Eddie Perez for his great harmony vocals and amazing guitar work and to drummer Mitch Marine for keeping great time. Given that most of these songs were written in the 60's this album sounds so fresh. You can clearly hear that Dwight has put his heart and soul into this project and i don't think he has ever sounded so good. If you shell out your bucks on this you won't be let down.
