5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Listening, 2 Mar. 2009

This review is from: Unreleased Recordings (Audio CD)
Hank Williams still remains one of the most important artists in American music. This set not only proves that Hank was a fine songwriter but also a great performer. After listening to this you wonder why The Grand Ole Opry don't reinstate the great man. The legacy of Hank Williams will never fade and he pioneered the country genre.
My personal favourites on this set are the gospel songs which Hank delivers with verve, passion and soul. Of the fifty four tracks all are essential listening and a good guidline in how country music should sound.
What a refreshing change it is to have a box set wich is not a cash in and serves the purpose of doing justice to the fine music.
I for one am glad that if there are possibly another two volumes on the way as it will serve even more proof The Grand Ole Opry should hang their heads in shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats To Beat The Blues., 28 Feb. 2009

In these hard times it's refreshing to find a compilation of fine tunes at such a cheap price. Every track on this album is great in it's own right. So get your cat clothes on and enjoy a rollicking time of quality blues, jazz, rock 'n' roll and crooners. Worth the price alone for "Good Morning Judge" by Wynonie Harris and His All Stars. Try Listening to David Rose Orchestra's "The Stripper" without recalling Morecombe And Wise making breakfast.
Fifty classic tracks and a girl with big red pants well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Music At Its Finest., 20 Feb. 2009
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
This album is by far one of the most important releases in recent years. Col J.D. Wilkes does more for American music on this release than all those bland alt/country ( whatever that is ) large hat image aware fakes could ever dream of. There are more ideas and musical diversity on this release than some can manage in a whole career.
From the opening train whistle blast of "Agony Wagon" you will be taken on a dark mysterious joy filled ride. Rockabilly, Goth, Country, Jazz, Blues, Metal all merge to create a twisted soundtrack for Col J.D's dark witty and billiant lyrics.
This is a band that is not afraid to take risks and are also one of the finest live acts on the planet.
Robert Plant is a huge fan, maybe because Col J.D is also one of the finest harmonica players around, or the man has got great taste.
Buy it now if you've not got this you're missing out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dream Maker, 23 Jan. 2009

May i first state as with any other music fan there are two types of Springsteen fans those who live on past glory and those who appreciate his development as an artist.
If you take time to actually listen to this album you will here a finely crafted beautiful soundscape. The opening track "Outlaw Pete" opens with humour and ends in sadness. The title track is one of the finest things i've heard on the radio for a long time. "What love Can Do" features a little Celtic style rock out. The blues rock out that is "Good Eye" is a fantastic earthy swamp stomper(check out "Swampblood" by Th** Legendary Shack Shakers if you like this one). "Tommorow Never Knows" and "Kingdom Of Days" already sound as if they have been around forever.
Elsewhere the album is scattered with influences which is no suprise for a man kwown as the human juke box, you have Roy Orbison, The Hollies, The Turtles, The Beach Boys, Sonny Boy Williamson, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt to name but a few. The best is saved until the very end "The Last Carnival" a heartfelt and tender tribute to Danny Federici and the golden globe winning "The Wrestler". Altogether a fantastic 16th studio album.
The dvd includes "A Night With The Jersey Devil" which is the best Springsteen video performance i have seen. The making of video is worth it alone for the footage of "The Last Carnival" you can sense the bands love for Danny Federici. All in all a fantastic dream of a package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damned Fine., 3 Nov. 2008

The Damned have created some of the finest music over the past thirty odd years. This album is a fine example at what the band do best.Crossing over between psychedelia, pop, prog rock, music hall and punk is a breeze for these talented fellows. May i add at this point that Captain Sensible's guitar playing has never sounded better and ditto Dave Vanian's vocals. It is hard to single out any track as my favourite changes with each listen. "Perfect Sunday", "Diamonds" , "A Nation Fit For Heroes" and "Little Miss Disaster" are all classic Damned that would brighten todays gloomy radio playlists. If you are a fan of "The Black Album" or "Strawberries" I'm almost certain you'll love this. Thanks to The Damned for some fine music.

I just finished watching the repeats of this on BBC1 and had to have this dvd. This is the freshest comedy i have seen in years. All the characters are well developed and the single camera work makes for great viewing as it flits between different scenarios. This show deserves awards aplenty.I hope that there is a second series soon. I wouldn't care if this dvd doesn't have extras, it's the show that matters. Go on treat yourself it's well worth a visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 80's Were Not All Bad., 17 July 2008
A much overlooked stunning debut album from TMTCH. Still touring and recording today, they remain this shores finest folk rock band. At the time this album made a refreshing change from all the boombastic overproduced tripe and the long overcoated misery that was in the charts. So if you like punk, folk, country, skiffle and think The Levellers are a bunch of crusty sell-out("Beautiful Day" was used in a "Daily Record" campaign ad)Jessies then this albums for you.
