3.0 out of 5 stars Ruined by poor photos - or more likely poor reproduction of photos ..., 14 Oct. 2014

Ruined by poor photos - or more likely poor reproduction of photos by the printing company, a better quality paper might have helped. Reminded me of the stuff you see produced by local historical groups in bookshops - poor quality paper and photos that do not inspire one to visit the area! However, the local historical stuff of is usually dirt cheap to buy so you forgive any short comings in the quality.

I have been to the area and know it is not as grey and miserable as the photos would have you believe, so don't be put off and go there.
Such a shame, surprised Phil Rickman put his name to this.

Not worth the price, 6 quid would have been better for such a book.

3.0 out of 5 stars she doesn't learn does she?, 3 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Practically the same plot as the last two books, she starts a book/ series is of articles someone who doesn't want truth coming out/ wants to know how much she knows contacts her and the game is afoot.
Not so many tedious links to previous books in this one.

Again she is supposed to be independent woman but goes running to her hubby at first sign of trouble. Even though she is supposed to be aghast at the way the crockery family treat the distaff side she is very hung up on appearance and whether women have lined faces or not. Not very women's lib. All of the women are very needy and reliant on men - not to mention throwing themselves at blokes all over the place!

Clearly the Crockery firm aren't too bright as their new product would end in reduced sales.

Very slow book.
Killer obvious. Lots of annoying back references to previous book. Her women are very needy and don't seem to know what they want.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, 30 Sept. 2014

Okay, good twist at end. Kept me amused.
Main gripe is the dog Gus, she takes him in to other peoples houses, restaurants, and even a little chef (never seen a dog in a little chef) - she apparently 'goes everywhere with him' but doesn't allow him upstairs to her office while she spends hours working?

Don't understand why her husband has to live elsewhere, does he have have midnight students? Why they heck doesn't he go home after work? Will try another.
