5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Muscle, 16 Sep 2004
I've always had a soft spot for stuff like this. Even at the ripe age of 16, I still watch things like Yugioh, Dragonball Z etc, etc.
Anyway, Ultimate Muscle then...
The story follows a young man named 'Kid Muscle' who is part of the Kinnikuman league of legendary wrestlers...
His father 'King Muscle' is a legend, having saved the world from an evil gang of wrestlers known as the DMP. Now it's Kid Muscle's turn to become the hero and save the world from the DMP. The problem is, he's not very keen on fighting and all he wants to do is run away and eat cow and rice all day long...
This is the first series in which Kid muscle must train at the Hercules factory, beat his father in order to go to planet earth and face the DMP. The story is original and like most Japanease cartoons, it is cleverly done. It's funny, witty and has lots of action. The animation is kind of cool too and you'll find yourself hooked on the whole thing.
So if like me, you have a soft spot for these kinds of cartoons then trust me, Ultimate Muscle is right up your alley way.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's back, and it's lookin' good!, 15 Sep 2004
Just like the sun rising, it was impossile to stop. We all knew that remake of Poke'mon blue/red was going to happen someday. And here it is, only this time it's called Leaf Green rather than (insert name here) blue.
Even if you've completed Poke'mon Blue/Red/Yellow, caught every single Poke'mon and beaten the stuffing out of the elite four and your nemesis, you could still play this game.
In a nutshell, this is classic 'Mon revamped. But there are extras as well, such as the chance of finding Jhoto Poke'mon on mysterious Islands...
The aim of the game is simple. Catch all the Poke'mon you can and become a great Poke'mon trainer. Beat all the gym leaders and the elite four and then go on to do the extra's.
The gameplay is sound and crisp whilst the graphical display massages your eyeballs with it's updated graphics.
This title is for all Poke'mon fans. Child or Adult, New or Experienced, Young or Old. Buy it and find out how good it is...

5.0 out of 5 stars ...A trip down memory lane., 9 Sep 2004
So this is where it all started off? The game which has been called "The daddy of all shooters" "The god of games", etc, etc.
And yet, even though it's starting to show grey hairs the classic Doom games are still some of the best games you will find in the world. Forget A.I, forget fancy-shmansy graphics, this is classic and straight forward gaming with no unpleasent twists...
The story is pretty simple.
Being the last space-marine in the world, you have to blow the heads of all the freaky aliens you can find.
The gameplay is as simple as the story, shoot your way in and shoot your way out. There are no puzzles unless you count finding blue, yellow and red key-cards which are scattered across the base. All you do is shoot, shoot and shoot. Oh and pick up power-ups.
So why am I giving this a 5 star rating? Because this is gaming at it's best. This IS the daddy of shooters. It's addictive and fun. And you'll feel like a god when you complete the game. And as you stare at the end game screen, you'll want to go back for more bloodshed and death.
This is the game that started them all. Infact it could be said that this is actually better than Doom 3!
Is it better than Doom 3?
I'll leave that to you.
One thing is for sure, once you start the game you will NOT want to stop!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Very Good!, 29 Aug 2004
This review is from: Blind Fury [VHS] [1990] (VHS Tape)
Blind Fury may be growing grey hairs but it still is a good movie. Rutger Hauer plays as Nick Parker, a vietnam vet who was blinded by an explosion and was taught how to fight without his eyes. A few years later he tries to find his best friend 'Frank'... and would you know it he gets caught up in a load of trouble with some mobsters who are trying to kill Frank's son Billy!
It's a really simple plot and a good one at that. Rutger plays a wicked blind swordsman and the action isn't too over the top. There is everything in this movie, comedy, suspence, drama, and a bucket full of action.
I can't reccomend this movie enough and all I can say is that it must be seen to be appreciated. Watch it, enjoy it and watch it again!

1.0 out of 5 stars Games like this should be illegal..., 29 Aug 2004
I never thought that it would make a decent game and it looks like I was right. This game is one of the worst I have ever played on a gamecube and possibly one of the worst I have played ever...
When you launch you Beyblade, it simply spins round and round...
now assuming your not punching yourself in the face for buying this game, you could move it forward using the control stick and watch as it hits the other blade. Erm... oh yeah and you can summoun a monster from the blade called a 'bit beast', which makes your blade more powerful and spins faster.
Beyblade is simply a rubbish game. It sucks because there is nothing to do but play with little spinning tops and make them crash into things. If you really like Beyblade's and call yourself a harcore fan then maybe this game is for you. Otherwise stay away from this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars The force is strong... very strong., 3 Aug 2004
For years I have yearned for a Star Wars game where you can do what you want, when you want. And I kinda found it in Jedi Academy, In this game, you create your own character and learn the ways of the force from Luke Skywalkker before moving on to missions. Sounds good right? Well it is kinda good.
You can create your own character and decide what torso he has, what species he will be, you know that old thing. However, there isn't much to choose. For example, I would love to have chosen what style of hair I could give my creation, or colour eyes.
You can create your own lightsaber and choose the type of hilt you have and the colour beam it emits. Later on you can choose the style of fighting you choose. You can do a Darth Maul and have a double sided lightsaber, have 2 seperate lightsabers or keep to one. (I liked the double-sided lightsaber 'cause it looked cool.)
The missions are pretty basic, but get harder along the way. The ememy A.I can be pretty pathetic at times, you can run right behind an enemy sometimes and they won't to a thing to stop you. However, your skills get put to the test as you battle it out with up to 6 enemies at once with your lightsaber and nothing more.
The graphics are crisp and smooth and run like a dream. It's a pleasure as it massages your eyes and sometimes... sometimes you can cry at how beautiful they are. Ahem... sorry 'bout that.
Multiplayer is good with some excellent game-modes such as capture the flag and normal lightsaber dueling.
All in all, this is a very very good attempt at a Star Wars sim type game. One of the best games you can but at the moment. And if your a Star Wars fan then you'll love the game!

4.0 out of 5 stars DROKK!!! THIS GAME IS GOOD!!!, 16 July 2004
Judge Dredd returns to the gaming world for another attempt at gaming glory. Only this time he actually succeeds in getting a good grade. The story is simple and very Dreddish...
A horde of vampires has appeared im Mega-City 1 and they have started killing lots and lots of people. Even worse is that the 4 Dark judges, Death, Fear, Fire and Mortis have returnted to weak havoc and 'judge' the population of Mega-city 1. (Basically that means killing everyone. Long story...)
First of all, the game sticks true to the comic books and doesn't veer off track like the movie did. The original Lawmaster has made it and it looks oh so good. The detail of the characters is great and the objectives are great too. You have an almost unlimited access of freedom in the game. It's you job to judge the bad guys and give them the ounishment they deserve. I was asked to arrest a grafitti artist, but I ended up kneecapping him before blowing his brains out. However, too many wrong punishments and you will have the speial judgical squad on your tail. These guys don't mess around and they will gladly haul you away if you so too many wrongs.
The controls are a bit awkward for some reason. And you can't change them which is a bit of a bummer. So it's a case of getting used to them or humph!!!
The graphics are good and your squad's A.I is impressive. They can handle their ownselves in a gunfight and sometimes it's best to let them do just that.
However, there are setbacks to this game. First of all, the game is too short. Just when you are getting in to the game, you find yourself facing the last boss and then watching the credits. I've already mentioned the controls and how awkward they feel.
The verdict is this...
Judge Dredd is good. Very good. However, it doesn't beat Metroid Prime or Halo in fact. However, it can still hold it's own in the competition.
Definitley worth a look

3.0 out of 5 stars Command and Conquer goes FPS!, 10 July 2004
Westwood have attempted one of the riskiest moves for Command and Conquer and have made a first person shooter out of it. It's not too bad but there's nothing special in it.
You play as a commando nicknamed Havoc, who undertakes a series of missions in order to stop the Brotherhood of Nod and thier new team, The Black Hand.
The gameplay is thick and fast, you need some reflexes in order to survive the Brotherhood's best men. You can even ride vehicles such as the Buggy or the Tank in order to even the odds. There are lots of weapons to choose from and prehaps the best one has to be the 'Godsend' Ion Cannon Beacon. Simply place this, run and watch the as GDI blow the hell out of the target using the ION cannon.
Grphically, this is mediocre. There isn't much you haven't seen before which is dissapointing because you'd expect something special from Westwood, the daddy of Command and Conquer. However, the buildings are pretty good and the inside of a Hand of Nod is very mysterious and well detailed.
Music is a hit and miss. Some tunes are good whilt others are bad. It's mostly repetitive and sometimes it's best to leave the music off for a while.
All in all, this is a decent attempt at a FPS from Westwood. However, die-hard C&C fans will love it whilst others might find it O.K at best. If your looking for something like this game try Battlefield on the PC.
This game is worth a rental at best...

3.0 out of 5 stars Die you scum, DIE!!!, 8 July 2004
This review is from: Die Hard Vendetta (Video Game)
Die Hard Vendetta can best be described with one word. Mediocre.
You play as tough guy cop John McLaine, who seems to foil terrorists for a living. Anyway, John is caught up in a whole lot of trouble when his daughter Lucy is kidnapped by a big bad tycoon and a flushed out Hollywood Star.
First of all, the graphics are good, but not great. The rendering on people's faces is beautifully done but the fact that they re-use faces in the game means is plain lazy and could have easily been avoided.
The controls are good and there are plenty of alternitive control modes for all those who don't agree with the original control scheme. However, it does take some getting used to the way they are layed out but you'll get the hang of it.
A neat addition is the auto targetting scheme. You'll have to face loads of badguys and the auto-targetting makes it alot easier. Another auto scheme is the auto jump. Simply run towards a gap and you'll (hopefully) jump over the gap and land safely on the other side.
The developers have also tried their hands at stealth modes as well. Simply press a button and you will enter stealth mode and will be able to creep up onto enemies and jam a gun into their head, making the other enemies place down their weapons and surrendering.
Then you have hero mode which is a kind of slow-mo mode, and bullet cam mode and... <<OH MY!!>>
O.k..., I'm calm now...
Well, there are sadly bad bits as well which obstruct this from a perfect 5 mark. First, at times the A.I is pretty lame. You can walk past guys at time and they won't do a thing about it unless you shoot someone. Second is that the game can be unfairly difficult. At one point, you must find a way to escape a building in 17 seconds or get blow up in the proccess. It took me hours to find the soloution to that problem.
Third is that if you do one itty bitty thing wrong then you are in trouble as you stare at the OBJECTIVE FAILURE words at the screen. And finally, this game seems to punish you for trying new things such as finding an alternate way through things and seems badly scripted. There is also some bad language which can make your ears blush at times, so needless to say this ain't one for the kids.
All in all, Die Hard Vendetta is a good attempt and is worth a rent out at most. But there are better shooters out there such as Timesplitters or the infamous Perfect Dark.
Like I said, one word: Mediocre

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmmmm... blood!, 3 July 2004
Just one look at the front cover is enough to tell you everything. The picture of a bald man in a suit holding 2 guns and the name of the game 'Hitman 2' tells us that this is not a game for 'ickle Jimmy on his 5th birthday.
Hitman 2 is one of the most violent games you will ever play. Our hero (or should it be villain?) 47 is now retired as a contract killer and has retreated to a church in Sicily for redemption. However when his friend and mentor Father Vittorio is kidnapped by a twisted russian crimelord, 47 is fored to don his suit, tighten the fibre-wire and go back to his previous bosses for information.
The first thing you notice is that the graphics are greatly inproved. There is more speech and the the vioce acting is superb. There is a tutorial for those who want to brush up on thier killing skills and the it's bang smack into your first mission.
The controls have been simplified for the Gamecube. And there is a first person view for precise targeting and detail. There is plenty of blood. Shooting a guy in the head produces plenty of the red goo. But you can even slice with a ninja sword or whack them on the head with a golf club. The choices are endless... as usual.
You can dress up as other people in order to infiltrate or simply go in gung-ho and blast anything that twitches. However, a new rating system encourages you not to go for the second option as the only way you can unlock hidden guns is by getting a perfect silent assaisain rating.
The story is told a bit better than it was in the last game. However, there are still unanswered questions which leave you pondering after the game is finished.
All in all then?
Hitman 2 is a vast improvement over the first game and if you are looking for a change in the usual shooters then this game should appeal to you. But be warned, it is definatley one for the mature gamer...
