Wonderful Book;problems with introduction, 27 Oct 2007
The previous reviewer has spelled out why this book is so loved. The writing is superb and the subject matter engrossing.New York review Books have produced a nice looking paper- back edition . One quibble is with parts of the introduction. T H White engaged in many field sports. She shows no evidence of appeciating field sports and early in the introduction even suggests that T H White"snagged salmon". To anybody who fishes this suggest that White illegally and unsportingly hooked salmon by driving the salmon fly into the body of the fish. White wrote brillant passages on flyfishing for salmon that are often found in collections of angling essays. There is no evidence, that I am aware of, that he ever "snagged salmon". It is wrong to suggest it. A previous edition of The Goshawk had much better introduction by Steve Bodio ,the US falconer and writer.
