5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a book, 29 Oct 2014
It may not be polished at the edges but the story in this book really does shine. Myers takes us on a journey of discovery with her lead character Jala that is captivating, surprising, exciting, emotional and ultimately highly satisfying, even though it ends on the edge of a mountainous cliff. The excellent writing draws you in from the beginning and doesn't let you go even when you've finished the book - beware you will need to buy the next one! The characters at first seem a little bit cliched, but stick with them because as the story progresses, new depths are revealed and they keep getting deeper. If I have one criticism, it is that this really could have benefitted from more professional editing, but the absence of that has very little impact on the gripping nature of the story. I'm delighted to have discovered this, well done Melissa Myers for getting this and the rest of the series out there for us to so greatly enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Popular with the fish, 21 Aug 2014

This is a great little filter. Cleans our 45L tank very efficiently and is very quiet. The fish like it too and are still playing in the stream of water three weeks in.

And great value too. 10 excellent books in one pack that has kept one little boy and also his sister (although she's a bit old for these now) happy at bedtime for the last couple of months. Very basic stories, but all of them leave lots of room for the imagination and children's interpretation to fill in the gaps which they love.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nasty rubbish, 26 Feb 2014
This review is from: JCB Mighty Lift and Drill (Toy)
What an awful load of rubbish this thing is. It takes ages to build and then you wish you hadn't bothered because you can't move it without all the bits flopping about, it can't lift anything because it's too flimsy and bits fall off. And then after about 15 minutes, all the screws that you took so long putting together work themselves loose and the thing falls apart. I think it's probably the worst toy I've ever come across. One very disappointed little boy... thanks JCB - this really reinforces the brand!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, rubbish durability, 30 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This machine is great while it lasts. Most of the coffee is as good or better than shop bought varieties, though the ones with milk sachets included such as the cappucinos are a bit of a rip off. The machine is very easy to use and to clean and looks good on the work surface. The trouble is, it doesn't last. This is my 2nd and neither of them have got beyond the 18 month point before no longer being able to read the coffee discs. It must be some kind of design fault because each time the reader looks like it gets water inside it and although you can still use it for a month or so intermittently, eventually it just stops altogether, which is very frustrating. Because I don't want to keep paying for a new machine every 18 months, I'm giving up on this one and am going to try another make. We'll see if they are any more durable...

1.0 out of 5 stars An Embarrassment, 14 Sep 2007
This review is from: Wild Hogs [DVD] (DVD)
I don't think I've ever seen a worse film than this. We watched it on the way back from California for some light diversion and, okay, so I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but a greater amount of codswallop I have never come across. The storyline is weak, the acting lame, the jokes flat, the romance about as inspiring as soggy sponge, and the overall effect is to leave you embarrassed for everyone who had the misfortune to be involved. John Travolta, hang your head in shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Animated Hilarity, 19 Dec 2006
What a superb little ditty. Okay, so it has all the hallmark elements of a standard Disney story, and might be slightly predictable in the end, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the plot has enough to keep the whole family interested, the characters are well developed and entertainng, and there is so much more as well. I suspect that 99 out of a 100 watchers will agree that the scenes of the squirrel and the acorn are their favourite part. They derserve to be, sequence after sequence they are side splittingly, jaw achingly, hair raisingly hilarious.

Watch this film. When at last you've managed to stop laughing, it will leave you with a very satisfied and long lasting smile.

1.0 out of 5 stars Makes you move, but only so that you can be out of earshot, 20 Nov 2006
I really wanted to like this but I'm sorry to say that it's awful. Not just one cd, which you do quite often get, but all three of them.

CD one is disco without the funk or the soul, or pretty much anything really except a lot of warbling over the top of some pretty uninspiring beats. CD two starts off with some promise but, with one or two notable exceptions, sadly quickly degenerates into a bit of a messy mixture of harder house that forgets to be uplifting. And what happened in CD three? It sounds like the lyrics of old classic club anthems mixed into new tunes which fit about as well together as a foot in a glove.

Don't be fooled by the cover. It's about as sexy as being trampled by a herd of heffalumps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Orwellian Comic Strip with a Contemporary Message, 18 Nov 2006
This review is from: V for Vendetta [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
This is probably one of those films you either love or you hate. I loved it. It's a well constructured quirky comic strip with a message that in our modern world of wars against terror we'd do well never to lose sight of. The dialogue is sharp, Natalie's dodgy accent notwithstanding, the plot bubbles along nicely, the humour is very British, and the ending is suitably rousing. Excellent.
