Seven Secrets of the Universe
Seven Secrets of the Universe
by Rachel Morgan
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.95

4.0 out of 5 stars Discovering the spiritual underpinnings of reality, 3 Nov. 2014
In "Seven Secrets", Judy Johnson draws on her long-standing study and practice of Raja Yoga to present esoteric knowledge in a gripping story form. Written with the help of her daughters Rachel and Lucy, the book builds to a climax in which four youngsters help to regenerate a tired and despondent old world. On the way, we gain vivid, living illustrations of our common humanity, of the presence of the past in our lives and actions, and of how a renewal of human consciousness renews the Earth. This is an unusual story, with echoes of The Celestine Prophecy in its dramatic depiction of a shared journey of discovery of the spiritual underpinnings of reality.

This book is an excellent review of the huge range of developments in thought and practice supporting the case that a revolution in consciousness is taking place. Eileen Campbell has worked as a publisher in this field for decades and at every step supports her case with appropriate references and website resources - such that a reader new to the field could acquire an immediate overview of many of the most important works. The book also conveys the longing in the author's heart for a more caring and peaceful world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third pair, 14 Dec. 2013

This is my third pair of these sandals. I wore the last pair everyday for more than 12 years, including on some quite long walks. They mould into your foot shape and are immensely comfortable for around the house,. but also long-lasting. I threw the previous pair away reluctantly, and only because I had finally gone through the sole - otherwise they were still strong. A slight difference - the new ones have a black matt finish on the strap, which actually looks very smart, compared with shiny leather on the old ones.

India: A Wounded Civilization
India: A Wounded Civilization
by V. S. Naipaul
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant insights, 5 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Brilliant (if somewhat jaded and sad) insights into the world's oldest and once-greatest civilization. India's recent (but now faltering) economic upsurge might have seemed to make Naipaul's analysis somewhat out of date, but the underlying "wounds" are still taking their toll

3.0 out of 5 stars Literary but not deep, 5 Dec. 2013

I was disappointed by this book, perhaps because my expectation was that it would hold useful insights into dying, whereas it seemed to me to be a more of a literary indulgence. Very well-written, however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light and great value, 5 Dec. 2013

Excellent value. Light and comfortable to wear, with good grip. I have a high instep, so the upper part of the shoe stretches rather widely, making the laces only just long enough to tie. Otherwise a great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be careful on the sizing, 27 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Beautiful-looking shoe but something went wrong on the size selection. A 43 should have been a nine (UK) but was more like an 8. I thought it might have been a one-off mislabeling and ordered the same again through an exchange (done readily and without charge), but with the same problem. After that, I gave up and now have to put up with a tight shoe.

This review is from: Sleeping With Mozart (Hardcover)
A strange, fascinating read.
The story rolls along as a sequence of human encounters, seen through the lens of an exceptionally gentle, loving individual. Many episodes take place in a girls' school and are warmly funny. Most of the others are scenes of varying degrees of intimacy; always tentative and exploratory. I loved this book mainly for the glimpse it gave of a most unusual mind.
