1.0 out of 5 stars a book in the wrong hands, 6 Oct 2011
It is not only that the book is useless as a gardening guide, it wasn't written as one; but it is also a terrible read because it is unintelligible. You have to share the author's erudition about plants, and have a thorough knowledge of sophisticated gardening techniques in order to understand who should be doing what to whom and when...
And yet I have planted flowers and trees, and cut grass and trimmed hedges, and had the pleasure of seeing things prosper. It is a little like being fond of literature and picking up "Ulysses". Thoroughly frustrating and deflating.
Verdict: a book for the elite or the snob.

4.0 out of 5 stars recommended? yes, absolutely., 6 Oct 2011
This review is from: The 9/11 Wars (Hardcover)
Having followed the events of the last decade through the local and international press only, I found the book interesting, informative and often illuminating. The author uses language well, and provides analysis, background and perspective as well as his own extensive experience of the particulars. Reading the book is as if, having only ever seen a postcard of say, an Icelandic volcano, you would watch a well-made documentary about it. Short of getting dirty and uncomfortable yourself, the best you could do.
