5.0 out of 5 stars Girls Aloud & Xenomania deliver the good again!, 27 Nov. 2005
This review is from: Chemistry (Audio CD)
Of course the majority of you have already heard the three singles: the fun and cool "Long Hot Summer", the experimental and vibrant "Biology", and the lovely ballad "See The Day" (which is out..a week after the album, I hear?) .. "See The Day", though being released rather soon after the Girls' second single, is bound to chart rather high as Christmas is just around the corner.
But aside from the 3 singles, of course they don't totally represent the album. There's also the energetic "Models" that you just want to blast on the stereo, as well as the funk-a-delic "Waiting", and a rather 'Graffiti My Soul' esq type of song in "Wild Horses". And other than having fun, dancey pop pleasures to shake your body to, there's also the impressive ballad called "Whole Lotta History" - which will most likely be the first Girls Aloud song to bring you to tears. Some really nice vocal performances in this - and just as impressive are the heart-wrenching lyrics. The song starts off a bit cheesy, but it does pick up. Give it a good listen!
And if you've wondered what it'd sound like if Nadine went solo, you get a sample of what she has to offer with the ballad-esq chill-out tune "No Regrets" .. which isn't really an impressive track at all, but listenable. None of the other 4 Girls are anywhere to be found on that one.
Overall, it's a good album. You may find it a bit hard to stomach the messy "Swinging London Town" and "Wild Horses", but some fans have taken a liking to those songs. The third album definitely differs from the previous two. Their stuff just keeps getting better and better! I'm glad Xenomania isn't short of ideas - otherwise each of the Girls' albums would sound just like the last.
Can't wait to hear the Christmas songs on the Limited Edition album!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for "Queen" and the "NWL" Video!!, 28 May 2005
This review is from: Negotiate With Love (Audio CD)
I love these kind of CDs. 'Negotiate With Love CD2' comes with a free ringtone, a B-Side, a remix, an interview, the music video, the karaoke version of the music video, and a game!
To me, what makes this single such a gem, is the video and the B-Side.
But firstly, "Negotiate With Love" shows that Rachel's gone down the electro-Pop route. And what a smart move! It's a fitting sound for her voice. This being the first single off her upcoming second album, it has an 80s feels to it and it's a satisfying listen. It's not dancey like her previous two singles, but it's just as upbeat as "Some Girls."
The video was also done rather well, I must say. It features multiple Rachel (they're doing their own things) and there are some pretty impressive, simple tricks done in the ivdeo.
All in all, "Negotiate With Love" is an OK single, but nothing ground-breaking along the lines of "Some Girls" ..
The real treat, methinks, if the spectacular B-Side that is "Queen"! Talk about blowing the single right out of the water! "Queen" has outstanding production and the vocals are ace! It's catchy, upbeat, and loads of fun! Since you can't really dance to "Negotiate With Love", this song will have you on your feet singing along to the chorus! Hopefully this song will be featured on Rachel's album -- it'd be a crime just to be left as a B-Side! ..This song is easily her best B-Side yet. It's 10 times better than "Negotiate With Love"!!
The game featured on this single is boring and cheap (but I guess more challenging than Girls Aloud's "Wake Me Up" game). It's basically PacMan and you're Rachel, running away from the other Rachels, trying to get hearts.
The interview features Rachel answering questions asked by fans (but being asked through an interviewer), where Rachel's asked about her first album, who she'd like to collaborate with, who influences her, what she'd take if she were stranded on a beach..yada yada yada.
All in all, this single's worth purchasing. It's full with a lot of goodies and a fantasic bonus track that blows the single right out of the water!
I can't wait for her second album. Meanwhile, you'll be interested to hear that the second single "So Good" is out July 4, and CD2 features a game, the video, a remix, and a B-Side! Buy it!! "So Good" is also an electro-Pop sound. It's quite good.

5.0 out of 5 stars One CD you'll have on repeat for so long..., 13 Nov. 2004
This review is from: Ultimate Kylie (Audio CD)
Ultimate Kylie is a collection of almost all of Kylie's single releases and will include two new songs, the stunning "I Believe In You" and the fantastic "Giving You Up".
You get all of your favorites here! (Well..excluding international singles like "Your Disco Needs You" and "Cowboy Style" ... as well as her 'Let's Get To It' singles) ... from "Better The Devil You Know" to "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", and then some!
Although Kylie's record company have pushed out several Greatest Hits projects just to cash in on fans, Ultimate Kylie is really the 2nd Greatest Hits compilation to be coming out (the first being her 1992 Greatest Hits).
Fans will be getting all of their favorite Kylie singles!! .. and two new treats! The stunning "I Believe In You" (co-written and co-produced by Baby Daddy and Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters) and the fun, synthy "Giving You Up" (a collaboration with Xenomania). Kylie fans will surely come to love these two new songs coming from one of the biggest music acts in history -- Kylie Minogue.
She's a very unique entertainer -- and there may never be another like you. You may have your Britneys, your Rachels, your Geris, but none could ever compare to Kylie!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite single, 24 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Red Blooded Woman (Audio CD)
I love the song Red Blooded Woman!!! It's me favorite track off Body Language.
Cruise Control is also a good song, which makes this single all the more worth buying! The song is featured exclusively on the U.S. version of Body Language but is a shorter version than this one. Still a good track.
Slow (Chemical Brother's Mix) is a pretty good remix. I like it. I'd imagine that a lot of clubs would play this mix!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loretta, Loretta, Loretta.., 2 May 2004
This review is from: Van Lear Rose (Audio CD)
What can I say? Loretta's newest masterpiece Van Lear Rose is amazing! At 70 going on 29 (with producer Jack White), Loretta proves that she still has what it takes to deliver the goods.
When I heard that Jack White of The White Stripes was going to produce this album, I was of course surprised. I had no idea Loretta had planned on releasing a new album, and I had no idea it was her who chose Jack to help produce it! The results are amazing nonetheless! Van Lear Rose is a true Country-sounding album with a bit of an edge of rock-n-roll in it. When she sings, she sounds so full of life. And even though a few of the songs are about 2 minutes in length, the listener can easily identify with what the song's talking about and [the listener's] left satisfied hearing that song because it's just THAT good.
Out of the 13 songs all written by Loretta, my top favorite songs off the Van Lear Rose album are "Portland Oregon" (a duet with Jack White), "High On a Mountain Top," the title track "Van Lear Rose," and "Women's Prison." All of the songs are stunning and you'll be listening to them over and over and over again. Loretta teaming up with Jack White proves that even the oddest pairings can always deliver stunning perfection.
This is a very, very decent album and I recommend it to anyone who's a Loretta fan or is just even the slightest bit interested in her music. This is great country music that, I believe, is one of Loretta's best recordings ever.
Loretta plans on making a religous album and Christmas album and is thinking of having Jack White produce those albums as well. Keep your fingers crossed!
