This is such a hilarious read! Thankfully I only send pigeons, smoke signals or morse code as contacts. This is a great read, not nasty to anyone, epic fails with a pinch of salt.

I thought this was a great read for a short story. The main characters are adorable, and you really don't want anything bad to happen to them. We view the story through Malcolm's eyes and his voice is great describing his relationship with his sister and that really adds to the tension as strange things happen in the house next door. Its really sad reading about the relationship between them and their parents I just am amazed that so much in such a short book was given to you as a reader, a great incentive for the upcoming book 'The City'.

I love Linwood Barclay, he drops you right into the action, no faffing about and poses lots of mystery along the way. This was not my favorite of his but it certainly wasn't boring to read.
Driving home the drivers window is tapped on by a young teenage girl who says she remembers his deceased son and so the journey begins. I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters to be honest but did like the way it was handled about the main character and his wife struggling to deal with grief and the unanswered questions of was it their fault, his, or someone else?
Its just one basic question, should he have driven on or was he right to give her a lift home? Such a simple thing to ask, with so many complications involved.
The big build up is to the mystery of who is causing trouble in the town and why and to be honest when you find out its a little bit of a let down. It also seems confusing with the teenagers story, the mystery of the trouble in the town, drug dealers, and dodgy police all mixed up somehow together and to not care about the characters makes it difficult to finish.

This is a very courageous book to write. Bold and honest this author tells it like it is and straight to the point. I didn't find it preachy at all but rather one sided . I didn't believe everything he discusses and felt led to research this author, wish I had before I downloaded.

I found this book to be a great read, it really stirs you up to think and act in your spiritual walk. A kind of refresher to your walk and encouragement. No messing around, this author gets straight to the point bringing understanding and importance to knowing our enemy which the world has kind of forgotten or thinks of as a joke on Halloween.

Oh the cover looked inviting, the blurb intriguing as its loosely based on real events, throw in the Jazz elements and I thought, jack pot. No such luck, I am sorry to say.
This review is not a reflection on the writing, which is great but the plot line that just didn't hold my attention at all. The characters are well drawn but not captivating enough to care about and seeing there could have been potential in the circumstances they faced at such a racially difficult time in New Orleans history and crime with the Mafia it didn't strike you passionately enough as it could have done.
The story is less about the Axeman I felt but more about the three groups of people who are trying to uncover who and why. Is it straight forward revenge or Voodoo? So many theories, a lot of characters with difficult pasts. All the characters have great set up's and back stories and I kept waiting to be enthralled but it didn't deliver. Towards the end of the book there is a storm coming, colliding with getting closer to the Axeman so you would have thought there may have been a good build up of tension but no nothing.
I found there was way to much padding, with description after description which for me didn't help the story,
