5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Movie that is severely underated, 15 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is one of my all-time favourite movies as well as comic book movie, and it makes me sad that the film made so little at the box office when it first came out, and so wasn't getting a sequel. (which later managed to more than break even with blu-ray sales that skyrocketed this film into, what they call a cult favourite ) it's like, this generations robocop (the original) and lethal weapon mixed with sci-fi and their own version of 'mutants'. I've told everyone I know to check this film out and as of now I have yet to hear someone say they didn't love it (not like....LOVE)

The film is based on the original comics of Judge Dredd, set in a futuristic america that has become a wasteland over run by drugs and crime, where police officers are now judges, no court trails, just 3 options for said suspect to adhere to or choose and are able to execute under certain acts. Judge, Jury and Executioner. Judge Dredd is the best there is, and now he has to take a rookie ( Anderson, who also has psychic powers) out for training to pass a test to become a judge, which lead them both into coming into contact with Ma Ma (played by the outstanding Lena Headey from Game of Thrones), and her gang who is the 'villain' of the piece, after soughting out a homicide. Ma Ma is responsible for distributing out a slo-mo drug, which slows down time for the user x300, and this is where the film really elevates itself into a stunning piece, the effects in this film are incredible with almost 45 minutes of the film shot in a high speed camera (ie. Slow-motion), all the drug shots alone are worth drooling over and the cinematography is absolutely stunning. ( done by the incredible Anthony Mantle!) Karl Urban rocks it as Dredd, and God bless the filmmakers for keeping his helmet on! Olivia Thirlby shows great chemistry with Urban and plays Anderson fantastically, but for me the scene stealer was Lena Headey as Ma Ma from the moment you first see her, her presence is always there even when shes not on screen, and the film shows exactly why everyone in Peachtrees is terrified of her, and Lena plays evil so damn well.

The great thing is this film doesn't rely on dialougue, you could watch the film on mute and you'd still know everything that's going on, no exposition with characters explaining unnecessary things, and showing never telling makes this film not only awesome, but an extremely well put together film too. Definately recommended, if you havn't watched it yet this movie is a must-see and hopefully one day it will get a sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lazy Readers = readers with no more cranked necks or pain!, 15 Jun 2014
Absolutely brilliant! Actually found these on another american site and thought I'd try them as I have a very bad lower back and get pain if I sit up on bed without support or against the headboard, thus slouching and cranking my neck. Suffice to say these glasses help immensely as I can watch tv or read lying flat on my back, which is also a lot better for your spine and posture.
My Dad's been into hospital and he isnt suppose to sit up so I've let him borrow them, and he absoluely loves them, as he can read lying flat, and one thing I was wishing coming out the hospital was that I bought two of them! So I came on here to look for them, honeatly not sure if I'd find them, and walla! (Also quit a bit cheaper, to my surprise!) And now my sister wants a pair too!
Wierdly it has also helped with my sleeping pattern, I'm a night-owl and am lucky to get to sleep by 3am but I find myself falling asleep at night much quicker (and better - no more cranked necks in thw morning! Probably due to already lying down) with these. I've found myself using them a lot more than I intended, only thing I'd say is when you first put them on it takes a bit for your eyes to adjust, but they adjust fully after about one or two wears. I've watched movies and used them for 4+ hours at a time (even to use my computer and keyboard- a challenge everyone should try) and havn't had any discomfort at all.

I would definately reccomend these to everyone, as well as saving you from a cranked neck it's also quite healthy, in improving body posture and spinal position. ESPECIALLY for those with bad backs, shoulders or necks. Also they're auite fun little gadgets - certainly amused my 5 month nephew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eoin Colfer has done it again!, 11 July 2006
Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code is one extra-exciting book. Once you start reading you can't take your eyes off the page. Once you read that very first page your hooked! it's a very enjoyable read for everyone of all ages.

Eoin(pronounced 'Owen') Colfer is a fantastic author, and my message to him is that i don't want him to stop writing about Artemis Fowl...ever,his other books are just as good, don't get me wrong about that, but Artemis Fowl is probably his best books ever and i love reading them and im sure his other fans will agree too, that you can't replace Artemis just as you can't replace Eoin...he is one of the best if not THE best.

anyway back to the book. can i just say that these books can be read stand alone, but i would suggest (for the younger readers) having a fair knowledge of the other books just to help, and it does generally make the books more enjoyable too, the books are not confusing if you havn't read the previous ones, just like for example a TV series,eg.Doctor Who, you watch an episode but havn't watched the previous episodes, its like that with the books really. (i'm not comparing these books to Doctor Who) you don't have to but it does help.

so about the book. i don't want to give any spoilers so im gonna type what it says:

Artemis Fowl has constructed a powerful new supercomputer using stolen fairy technology, and the last thing he needs is for it to fall into the wrong hands. So, when it does fall inot the wrong hands - those of ruthless tycoon Jon Spiro - Artemis knows he must recover the device or the consequences will be dire, for humans and fairies alike.

With danger all around and his bodyguard indisposed, Artemis turns to Captain Holly Short of the Lower Elements Police(LEP) for help. But can Holly trust Artemis Fowl, fairy public enemy No.1?

Take it from me, Holly. The answer is No.

So, if you enjoy Fantasy, or you enjoy Crime or you enjoy anytyhing his book is for everyone, including you! so just buy the book, and take my word for it, it will be worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truely amazing book, 4 Aug 2005
WOW! this is a truely amazing book on an amazing super-hero. When Stan Lee first put what he had dreamt in his head onto paper he didn't know that this 'superhero' would be the most common well-known super-hero of all time... he didn't know that spiderman would still be the biggest talked about (superhero) name 45+ yrs later.so now he does he wants everyone to know about his villains and his closest family too...so he(and Tom) wrote a book on it!
Written by Tom Defalco and also some illustrations by him too. the variousity of illustraters include Mark Bagley, John Romita and Steve Ditko.
This book brings together (biographies of) all spiderman's most mightiest foe's, a biography of his family(including his parents mary and richard parker) and friends(which include MJ Watson, Gwen Stacy, flash thompson and Ben Rielly AKA scarlet spider). It tells the story of peter's life right back from when he got bitten by a radioactive spider that transformed him into amazing Spider-Man to his worst battles against a host of villains such as Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom and Carnage. "spider-man: the ultimate guide" brings you everything you ever wanted to know about the wall-crawler(except how his parents came back (from the plane crash)...you'll have to read the comics to find out), including the thrilling events and personalities that have shaped the life of one of the world's best-known comic-book and now tv(and silver screen) characters.
This is truely the ULTIMATE guide for any spidey or marvel-fan and even if ur not it will be a very, very interesting read...i assure you. thought you knew everything about the webslinger? you were wrong...and will be until you read this.
as i keep saying this is a truely amazing book ror a truely amazing super hero...but don't take my word for it, read it for urself!
aw go on...ENTER THE WORLD of your friendly nieghbourhood SPIDER-MAN, ya know u want to.
