The Last Goon Show of All (BBC Radio Collection)
The Last Goon Show of All (BBC Radio Collection)
by Spike Milligan
Edition: Audio CD
Price: 7.15

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last of All, 23 Jan 2014
Ahhh the Goon Show, marvelous series and here it is for once last time...thank you Heavens!
The BBC had this specially commissioned for its 50th anniversary celebrations and Mr Milligan did a fine job of bringing the Goons back to life for one last time.
To be truthful, there isn't a story line to this one off, more a string of well put together sketches that reunite the old characters although i'm sure it's the first time Mr Secombe stood in for the Queen. But the sketches as ever are top notch, Secombes rendition of 'If I Ruled the World' from under a floorboard and Eccles living in a coal cellar definately raise a smile
Good to hear Mr Max Geldray and Mr Ray Ellington perform again as well which brings this unique show full circle.
Sadly, radio announcer Mr Wallace Greenslade had passed away and so his duties were taken over by Mr Andrew Timothy who as as stand in does a wonderful job.
Also included is At Last the Go On Show which is a lovely little piece into shall we say an informed history of the Goon Show.
Overall a great little gem to have and well worth its place on the shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars F1 2013, 23 Jan 2014
This review is from: F1 2013 Official Review DVD (DVD)
F1 2013 returns to the story line format for the season with Ben Edwards providing race commentary and season news items.
The season is very well represented with all the major headlines (pirelli tyre failures, Mark Webbers exit and multi-21 and so forth) being well told. There are more radio messages replayed which give more insight into who said what which is particularly interesting with the multi-21 story.
Sound and picture quality are as good as ever and as always footage used from the season is top class.
A lot of people have been quite negative about the 2013 season given Red Bulls domination but the Dvd does remind you that the first half of the season was definitely an open book concerning the championship while the second half does do a good job at showing the racing behind the number 1 driver.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable watch and a definate step up to the 2012 release. Good to see the return of the season as a story format. For an F1 fan, a must have!

1.0 out of 5 stars Drifted Away, 22 Jun 2013
This review is from: Paramore (Audio CD)
I agree with the other reviews in the 1 star category, Paramore have changed in a very big way that while may garner more fans than before, has decidely split the old school fans.
The problem is the songs have gone from being quirky to just plain old electronic nonsense which to be honest has been done so many times before this just becomes background noise. Esstentially all the instruments have taken a back seat to a computer and it's so long to the Paramore sound. Hayley Williams, once the fore runner of front women in pop-punk/alt bands has now gone over to contemporary mainstream singers who need to dress up their voices rather than just display their natural talent.
Now alot of people will most certainly disagree with this review and say that Paramore have evolved their sound rather than stick with the same old tunes but that doesn't stand true in that there is a huge difference in style between this album and their previous albums which means revolution not evolution and that is the wedge between a good and bad album, which for me means a bad album.
All i will say is this, Paramore for me has changed beyond all recognition from what made them a unique and individual band and that for me is a real shame. In conclusion, i can only say good luck to Paramore in whatever guise they choose to take and hope they can continue to make music that a wide range of people will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek, 28 April 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Trek (PS3) (Video Game)
Star Trek is a very enjoyable third person shooter which is very entertaining. The story is set after the events of the 2009 film and revolves around an invasion by the Gorn who are portrayed as vicious lizards of varying sub-species.
You have the choice to play as either Kirk or Spock, each having there own attributes (Kirk shooter - Spock stealth) using various weapons and the tricorder as the trouble shooter. The player must progress through the game either through force or stealth, working your way through the different environments making your way through puzzles and enemies.
Gameplay is very standard, sometimes a little sticky in places but nothing that can't be handled. Graphics are very good, not the best you'll ever see but still very good and the story line, although a little tedious in places, is very good to.
Overall Star Trek is a very enjoyable game which for all the Star Trek fans out there is well worth while playing, maybe not so if your a standard gamer but still a good game none the less.

4.0 out of 5 stars F1 2012 - Just Under The Mark, 11 Jan 2013
This DVD has now been added to my collection of F1 reviews of the past decade and i have to say this one matches up well to it's predecessors.

Of note and as mentioned in previous reviews, this particular f1 review does not include any of the usual build up to a grand prix or any coverage of qualifying. That is one let down because alot happened off track in the 2012 season which would have been great to cover.

Other than that, this is one great review. The coverage of the race is well presented and the shots as always are great. Commentary is as good as ever and the quality and sound is nicely done to.

Overall definately worth the wait and a very enjoyable watch.

1.0 out of 5 stars 3rd Album Slump, 4 April 2011
This review is from: Vices & Virtues (Audio CD)
Panic! at the Disco on their previous two albums were tremendous with catchy tunes that were unique making the albums flow from song to song, each having merits of their own.

On Vices and Vitures, Panic's comback, the flow is still there but the catchy tunes are not. The Ballard of Mona Lisa promises so much with such a good beat and such energy but this quickly falls apart soon into the second song and then bang your at the end. Memorable songs gone, no effort made to make each song shine and nothing done to make them unique. This is just one ear pleasing album and while Mona Lisa is a great little number, the album has nothing else to offer. One disappointing comeback from a band that had so much to give.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short But Sweet, 31 Mar 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Ok this game is set two years before the film Terminator Salvation and the game follows John Connor regaining his faith in humanities survival against the machines.

Story wise, it fits really well into plots of the films but it is a short story at that. Most of it is travelling from place to place but the main combat areas are pretty good. Character voice overs are alright, not great but they do fine. Music is alright to with its Terminator themed tunes but there not the best you'll ever hear.

Graphics like so many games on PC today are excellent, no faults there. Gameplay however takes a little bit of time to get used to but once you've mastered it you'll be fine. Weapons and enemies are a bit limited in this game with there being 3 main enemies with some bigger ones thrown in here and there. Weapons have to be aimed specifically to be effective but if you enjoy long battles and shooting endlessly you'll be very happy. The feature of being able to get under cover and move about in cover is pretty good.

So all in all an alright game. Despite this i've given it 4 stars because it's a game you can play over and over again and still enjoy it plus it's a Terminator game and how many games can you blow machines like those up...apart from other games in the Terminator series. Honestly though, it's a game worth having for a bit of fun action but not essential in collections.
