5.0 out of 5 stars The music is incredible and is one of the most beautiful films I've seen this year, 6 Nov. 2014
I caught this at The ICA earlier this year, having read a little about it online. I was mainly interested because Eric Cantona is in the film and I was intrigued about him. It's quite an outrageous film but very very entertaining. It certainly stands out from others films that are released but is most certainly worth checking out. The music is incredible and is one of the most beautiful films I've seen this year. Certainly worth a check out and can't wait for this special edition!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Blu-Ray doc so far, 7 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I can truly say that out of all of the BBC Natural History BD releases that I have bought this is by far the best. Most of the reviews here bar one, comment on how stunning the visuals are, and they really are totally stunning and beautiful. I would confidently say that all of this was shot on HD which makes a big difference. I was disappointed by the visual quality of WILD CHINA because quite a lot of it was clearly standard definition up converted to HD, but Galapagos is the very best that I have seen to date.

A couple of reviewers here moan about the narration by Tilda Swinton, I can't see why? Although I love the idea that it's very Lord of The Rings as suggested by another positive review. The style of narration perfectly suits the incredible imagery. More like this please.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spider Pig, Spider Pig..., 6 Nov. 2009
The Simpsons movie arrived during the great summer of movie discontent! Unfortunately it didn't do anything to make things better. Bart's naked skateboarding was amusing, while Homer's Summer romance with Spider Pig, along with his rendition of the Spider Pig song (based on the Spiderman theme from the original 70's TV show) were the highlights of the film. The choral rendition of the Spider pig song during the closing credits was also rather good.

Other than that the film was three TV episodes strung together, in fact it was three older TV episodes re-written and strung together, there were no new themes and all had been handled much better within the Simpson's TV series. The result was an OK, but an uninspiring 90 minutes which contained too few good jokes and only two golden moments.

Sincerely hope they try better with the next one.

2.0 out of 5 stars A interesting start, 5 Nov. 2007
This review is from: Transformers (2007) [DVD] (DVD)
Had to go see this with the kids - I'd heard good things about the film but it turned out to be another dull 2008 blockbuster - and there were too many of them!

It actually starts quite well, with a little bit of (unoriginal) character development, but progressively becomes more and more clichéd. The last hour or so feels like one long fight seen and I fell asleep - last time I did that was Independence Day - another boring film.

5.0 out of 5 stars A puzzle to solve, 2 Nov. 2007
This review is from: Surveillance [DVD] (DVD)
I won tickets to see this film earlier in the year as part of a cast and crew screening at the NFT. And on a first viewing I was a bit confused in a couple of places, but watching at again on DVD made everything fall into place. I really enjoyed it, very clever but not something I could fully understand in one viewing - which actually makes it better, because it is worth seeing more than once. The CCTV footage can be a bit annoying at times, but once you're used to it it isn't a problem. Its not a big budget Hollywood moive, its a gritty British independent thriller and it works.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap US import, 5 Sept. 2007
Don't waste your money on this totally inferior DVD. The picture quality is poor and it doesn't have the special features of the UK version. In fact if you just look at the two covers you can tell the difference. The US version loks cheap and nasty - just like the disk.
