I bought Ponder for my two year old grandson who is suddenly besotted with frogs and toads. He had seen a frog in my garden and wanted to take it home with him. Straightaway I ordered him one on-line. Ponder was a great success. He is beautifully made and very attractive (for a frog). George takes him everywhere

4.0 out of 5 stars easy ironing, 26 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really enjoy ironing, strange as it may be. My last Steam Generator gave up the ghost after several years of constant use. I chose the Philips because I trust the Brand. This is a very reasonably priced iron which performs well. The tank supplies about 20 minutes ironing time. My only criticism is that I cannot stand it on its heel when I am ironing. It needs to be laid flat on a plate when I put it down

5.0 out of 5 stars Great clarity, 3 Oct 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these as a birthday gift for my husband. We are both very impressed by their clarity and usefulness, particularly as we are keen birdwatchers and they enable the user to 'hold' the image once it has been found. This means that any slight shaking of the hands is counter-acted. A great idea! Very well priced

2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, 31 Mar 2010

This review is from: Brooklyn (Hardcover)
I found this book quite lacking in real holding power. I actually put it down halfway through and read another, because I was bored. I could not picture any of the characters, the story seemed to ramble and the language was poor in places.

I bought this version of St John's Passion to aid my practice for a coming choral concert. It was better than the copy I had had previously, being clear and orchestrally very beautiful

4.0 out of 5 stars easy booklet birds of costa rice, 18 Dec 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
On a trip to Costa Rica this year, the booklet was invaluable. It doesn't give information about each bird but the colours and illustrations are very true. With its help, I was able to spot at least two thirds of the birds pictured- INCLUDING the Resplendent Quetzal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story of friendship, 18 Dec 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a story I have wanted to read for some time. It has been featured in several examination papers for 11+ and I have been impressed by the humour and subtlety of the text.
When I read it in its entirety, I enjoyed it and think that, although it is set in the early 1950s, many children will recognise the ups and downs of friendships and school relationships within the story. There is also a wealth of real information about planes used in the last world war and their phasing out.

3.0 out of 5 stars literary fiction, 4 Aug 2009

I was originally intrigued by the title of this book. I enjoyed it up to a point but I felt many of the characters were far-fetched. I DID learn a lot about the hardships suffered by the people of Guernsey during the last war and the bravery they showed

Joyce Rupp is a great favourite of mine. This book I have lent to many people who needed just the right reflection for a special occasion. It has been used at baptims, funerals, anniversaries of different kinds and just to dip into when there is a need to find something sensitive and original.
