2.0 out of 5 stars Compatability issues, 19 Mar. 2011
I bought this player for my family at christmas in hopes of converting them to the wonders of blu ray and had problems with some discs pop up menus popping up sporadically during playback. Amazon exchanged jt immediately. My other issue was an audio issue. This was the same issue on the new player so feel it is not compatable with a slightly older sony bravia tv. I have tried it with two bravias of around the same age and have had the same problem. It works fine with my toshiba and a samsung that we have. The problem is that when playing dvds it drops sound every few minutes for a fraction of a second. It does the same on blu ray but not as often and usually late within the first hour of films. The drop is noticable as less than a second of silence. It is quite annoying. On the whole the player is quite slow to load discs and start up but not annoyingly so and for a player of this price is not a bad issue. The picture quality is excellent and audio when not dropping is good. In my room i use a ps3 with a surrund hook up so spend my time watching blu rays up there. The picture qualities are very similar. I wouldnt recommend this player unless you want to risk the audio issue

5.0 out of 5 stars i didn't realise judy garland had freckles!, 31 Oct. 2009
what a beautiful representation of the wizard of oz. i recieved my copy yesterday and watched it immediately after i was home from work. watching this film on bluray is like seeing it again. from the opening scenes in black and white you can see how well the film has held up over the last 70 years. they have completely restored the film so it is without a blemish. detail is fine and i would say perfect. i am glad to see that they have obviously not used anything to make the film appear modern because the grain that is there adds to the charm of this film. as soon as dorothy lands in oz and opens the door to munchkin land the screen explodes with colour. the colours radiate of the screen in all their glory. what a difference scenes with the munchkins and in the emerald city are with the clear depth of the colour. the detail of the film also amazes me. close ups of judy garlands face reveal every freckle and 'blemish' it is the face of dorothy as youve never seen her,the innocent teenager lost in a land she doesnt know. the detail also adds superb depth to the film, in scenes such as the poppy field it looks it goes on forever. the disc comes with a dvd version of the film aswell. i have a 2001 edition dvd and after watching the bluray yesterday (sad as i am) i put the dvd on a standard dvd player on another tv next to my bluray player. the difference is unbelieveable (i didnt watch the whole film). the colours in the bluray are so much more vibrant. makeup can be seen on the muchkins and the cowardly lion easily (i think this adds to the film) and you can see every square on dorothys dress. one thing that blu me away were those ruby slippers on the yellow brick road. they are so vibrant that they could walk back to kansas on thier own. i would thoroughly recomend this as an upgrade from the dvd. you wont regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good foundation, 25 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Islam For Dummies (Paperback)
I think this book is a good foundation if you are interested in developing you knowledge of islam. it gives a good basic understanding to islamic history, culture and the religion as a whole. i have also read Catholicism for dummies and the bible for dummies and found that this book didn't have the same free-flowing nature to it. i also felt that the authors opinion leant slightly against islam on some issues and although anyone is welcome to their opinions i felt this shouldn't have come through in the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud!, 4 Dec. 2008
Excellent product. very easy to set up, when i got it going was very impressed with the sound. just tried it out on MI3 bridge scene and my room was shaking. have tried action, concert, musical and general dialogue films and it delivers in each genre. i find 35 a perfectly loud level of sound but tried it all the was to 50 and the house was shaking. ipod and cd connection is good but just switch to the music dolby mode for better sound when playing music (which is obviously what they had in mind for that feature). length of wire was more than adequate for me in a good sized room, although i ran mine under the carpet, but can see if you were to run the wires around the room via the side walls it may fall short. also have hooked it up to my 360 via the tv and it is great with that too. was worried dialogue was out of sync at one point but just turned out to be a very old dvd. would thoroughly recommend this unit

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing set of dvd's, 16 Oct. 2008
This is an amazing series. id watched a few episodes of the x files on TV before and loved them and when the set was cheap and i had some birthday money floating around i thought id invest in this set. What a decision, this is probably the best Sci-fi program of the past two decades. The central 'mythology' episodes keep you glued on the edge of your seat and the 'monsters of the weeks' and the rest of the episodes are equally as good. especially good to see a series such as this exhibit comedic value as well. i purchased this set on the 11th of august and have only just finished watching them on the 16th of october and thats watching at least one a day. there are also in depth documentaries on discs and special features for each series. The first feature film is a great film to stand alone and a nice tie in between series 5 and 6. although, in my opinion, the last few episodes that were without david duchovney in series 9 suffered a bit from his absence but they are still in a league of their own. i cant wait to see the new film when its out on dvd as i missed it at the cinema and word is their is a possibility of a third film to do with the alien invasion of 2012. if your a fan of the series you will buy this anyway but if youve never seen it and take the chance you wont be dissapointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Forever Golden, 28 Jun. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
finaly the Golden Girls arrive on DVD! this is probably the best telvision show of the 80's. brioadcast sometimes on living TV in the UK, i got hooked. this first season is excellent. though most sitcoms take a few series to get into full swing tis leaped straight in there. it follows the live of three women and ones mother in Miami. Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia are excellently played by Rue McClanahan, Betty White, Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty. though all performance are excellent i think Sophia played by Estelle steals the show.
Here are the episodes from the first Series:
1: The Engagement
Its the first ever episode and Sophia, Dorothy's mother, moving in with the girls after the retirement home she had stayed at burned down. Blanche's latest boyfriend, Harry, proposes marriage, but it gives the girls a bad feeling.
2: Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding?
Dorothy's daughter, Kate, comes to Miami with an announcement. She's engaged to a podiatrist named Dennis. Dorothy is thrilled but her happiness quickly turns to anger when she realizes that ex-husband, Stan, is going to be invited.
3:Rose the Prude
Rose reluctantly agrees to go on a blind double date with blanche. This date turns into a serious relationship when she is invited on a cruise which would involve sharing a stateroom.
4: Transplant
Blanche's sister, Virginia, comes to Miami for a visit and Blanche is convinced she's after something. Later, while out to dinner, she learns just what Virginia is after: Blanche's kidney.
5: The Triangle"
Dorothy is dating Dr. Elliot Clayton. Dr. Clayton makes a pass at Blanche, but Dorothy doesn't believe her when Blanche tells her about it. After a fight over the subject, Blanche orders Dorothy to leave the house.
6: On Golden Girls
Blanche's 14-year old grandson comes to Miami for a visit and brings a new meaning to the term "generation gap", by doing more than his share of provocation.
7: The Competition
In a bowling competition, it's Dorothy and Blanche verses Rose and Sophia. If Sophia and Rose win, Dorothy will allow Sophia to go back to Sicily for a visit with an old beau and if Dorothy and Blanche win Sophia will give her a pair of antique earrings.
8: Break-In
After a concert, the girls arrive home, one evening, to discover their house has been broken into. This leads the girls to seek out means to heavily protect themselves, including Rose buying a handgun.
9: Blanche and the Younger Man
Blanche goes all out to try to look good for her latest boyfriend, her aerobics instructor, half her age.
10: Heart Attack
After a dinner party, Sophia suffers an apparent heart attack with a heavy storm delaying the paramedics.
11: The Return of Dorothy's Ex
Dorothy's ex-husband, Stan shows up to settle a piece of land they bought on their honeymoon. This leads to Dorothy and Stan spending the night together.
12: The Custody Battle
Dorothy's sister, Gloria, comes to Miami for a visit and asks Sophia to come live with her in California.
13: A Little Romance
Rose has been dating Dr. Jonathan Newman and begins to think their relationship is leading to the altar. However, she begins to have second thoughts especially since he's a midget.
(Emmy award winning episode)
14: That Was No Lady
Dorothy latest boyfriend Glen gives her a shock when he tells her he's married. She surprises herself when she finds herself sneaking around to be with him.
15: In a Bed of Rose's
Late one evening, Rose brings a man home and they spend the night together. However, in the morning she finds that he has passed away in his sleep.
16: The Truth Will Hold Out

17: Nice and Easy
Blanche's visiting niece is a chip right off the old block, when she three different men in the three nights she has been there.
18: The Operation
Dorothy is hesitant about having foot surgery just as she was scheduled to tap dance with Blanche and Rose at a dance recital.
19: Second Motherhood
Blanche is romanced by a wealthy suitor who she learns has several small children. This fact dampens his proposal of marriage.
20: Adult Education
Blanche's psychology professor sexually harasses her when she goes to him for help on a difficult test. He offers her extra credit in a sexual way.
21: Flu Attack
A week before an awards ceremony, Blanche, Dorothy and Rose each come down with a nasty flu, which compounds their arguing over who will win a prestigious award.
22: Job Hunting
When Rose looses her job at the grief center, she begins searching for other sources of work, but realizes the world doesn't need an older employee.
23: Blind Ambitions
Rose's sister, Lily must deal with life as a blind person after recently losing her sight.
24: Big Daddy
Blanche's father, Big Daddy, comes to Miami for a visit, with an announcement, he's sold the family plantation and is setting out to become a country singer.
25: The Way We Met
One night after watching Psycho, the girls find it hard to sleep so they stay up and reminisce about how they all came to live with one another.

Finally it hits the DVD sales, all i can say is bring on season Two!
