I was a big fan of Paolo's last album but after just one listen to this album from start to finish i think i prefer this.

His voice sounds more mature and more care free, this effortless, raw and untamed style results in an album that sounds like the album Paolo intended to make last time but was constrained by commercial input,
Put simply this is the album that his heart and soul has longed to make, and now finally his voice is at home.

The production is also fantastic, beautiful, summery style to all the tracks with stacks of emotion in every track.

I knew this effort would be met with alot of skepticism, and i was not wrong, but i think it is a good thing when an artist matures and creates something different, it shows real talent.

Great album, much respect to Paolo, well done!

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much Humourless to what came before, 6 Jan. 2009
This is only funny if you forget about all the other amazing episodes of in my opinion, the best sitcom of all time.
It really does not bare any resemblance to what came before, apart from the characters names and in some part, Jim and Barbra who remain loyal to their previous selves.
Think of it as something new, and there are defiantly funny parts, but it has lost almost everything i loved so much about the Royles, the subtlety, the wit the sometimes bleakness and the amazing ability it had to have me rolling around in stitches one minute and have me in complete sadness the next... this became an over exaggerated slapstick kind of comedy which is not what the Royle family became so loved for.
I found some parts mildly funny but overall the characters became unbelievable and shells of their previous selves, and almost everybody i have spoken to thought the same as me.
I have previously purchased the box set containing series 1-3 and the queen of sheeba which is absolutely brilliant, and i shall now forget about this new Xmas episode and carry on remembering the Royles the way they were when Nana was still alive :) i recommend you do the same as me.

1.0 out of 5 stars what??, 28 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Doll Doll Doll (Audio CD)
i am a big fan of venetian snares, i love to hear experimental electronic music using vocal samples and instrument breaks but the previous reviewer has got this one totally wrong, the album has no cohesion, it does not flow at all, its actually the stupidest album iv ever heard, i think he put this album out there as an experiment to see if his fan base would still give him his props, u tend to find that people who enjoy very alternative artists such as Venetian scares, Aphex twin, Sqaurepusher, Amon tobin etc... will never say a bad word about any of their work because they believe they need to like the strangest music around in order to be different, in fact i would not be surprised if a lot of them secretly listen to Brittany Spears and The Spice girls when they are alone.

I much prefer the later work from this artist, Chocolate wheelchair and Huge Chrome cylinder.. are so much better, he really pushes the boundaries and experiments with blissful electronic beats and more melodies. don't get me wrong both these albums still go of on serious benders which is brilliant to hear but this album Doll Doll Doll is pure crap, an album made to shock, i mean just look at some of the track names and you will see my point.

I think Venetian scares is a genius and really breaks boundaries with his music, but please give this album a miss, it's head banging, messy, intolerable, noisy rubbish. the only decent track is the first track, from then on the album quickly gets worse and worse!

This is brilliant! Glitchy yet so atmospheric, cold yet so warm, its the perfect example of opposites sounding beautiful.
The way he uses modern electronic beats, (some of the most outthere i have ever heard) with acoustic and orchestral sounds is simply wonderful, it works so well, i can't plug this album enough.
Buy now to experience something different and a million times better than most drivel we hear in music today.

2.0 out of 5 stars Massive let down!, 16 Jun. 2008
This review is from: Headthrash (Audio CD)
The plumps are my or should i say were my favorite Breaks outfit and when i herd them play at Snowbombing and they dropped 'Torque of the devil' i was amazed and i was just pulsating inside for more of the same on their new offering, i mean even if the rest of the tracks suck at least Torque of the devil will still be outstanding, right? Wrong! The best track on the album has been ruined by a commercial vocal that sounds so bad and wrong! i can not belive it! so unimpressed with that one.

Next, the album is dotted with commercial beats and vocals that really ruin the plumps sound, I always loved them for their chunky beats and slight use of vocal cuts and phrases on the odd occasion where it really feil right but this album is far to full on vocal, its just not nessacary.

When they dropped Eargasm and it featured 'Morning sun' i was blown away, they had made a chilled out vocal track that really sounded great, but i really hate the way they have taken their sound, for Example 'Lost in space' and 'Victim' and 'He got beef' are truely terrible!

On the plus side the plumps old sound can still be found underneath these ear polluting vocals on most tracks, 'System addict' and 'Snake eyes' are very good tracks, but still nothing compared to classic plump tracks such as 'Creep' 'Redshift' and 'The rub off' these older tracks still keep me buzzing on the dancefloor, and in all honesty i would struggle to find and more ryhthm than Stephen Hawking on the dancefloor to these chart pleasing tracks!
sorry boys, better luck next time

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Classic, 20 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Truman Show - Sce [DVD] (DVD)
Do not pay any attention to the review here by "Eddie" its all lies, Carrey is brilliant in this film, weather a fan of Carrey or not, i should think most people would remember him from his roles in films such as Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura and me myself and irene.... but here he escapes that stigma in a totally different role, of course he brings a little comedy to the character but this only makes the character more lovable and parts of the film will have you shouting at the screen rooting for his character.
I think Carrey is perfect for this role and gave him the chance to play a little more serious and deeper character, he is a brilliant actor and is just trying to escape being labeled as a one trick pony, and here he has succeeded with style.
As far as the actual film goes, its amazing, really fresh and original and defiantly a must see.

2.0 out of 5 stars AVOID!, 8 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Cream Summer 2007 (Audio CD)
Put simply, This Is Rubbish! iv given it 2 stars only for two reasons,
a) CRW - I feel love
b) Bedrock - Heaven scent

a star for each tune, these are brilliant classics from back in the day when commercial dance music was actually good, the rest of the tunes on this 3cd box is pure garbage! maybe there is the odd decent track but nothing to brag about.
commercial dance music heard in the charts and which makes up the most of this compilation is pretty damn terrible, really cheesey, and what makes this even worse is that the tunes that actually have potential on this album are really horrible mixes!
Avoid this Cd and pick up this years Global Gathering compilation for some real tuneage!!

3.0 out of 5 stars nice music..., 31 July 2007
This review is from: Hand Built By Robots (Audio CD)
At best this is nice music, and that is honestly the best word i can think of to describe it, i really think he has been blown out of proportion, granted newton has got skill on the accouistic but overall he does not cut it with the likes of Jack Johnson or Paulo Nuttini, it makes me sick that commarrsions are being made between these guys just because they all strum guitar.
There are some good tracks on this album and Newton is by no means untalented, but i just do not think he deserves all the hype surrounding him, he is nothing like Jack Johnson, completley different style in vocals, and Paulo's melodies are sooooo much better in commparison, combined with an an amazingly original vocal style.
Overall this album is good, nice etc... nothing outstandning and i only reviews it because i think people should be aware that he is fields apart from other so called similar artists.

somebody in 2000 has reviewed this and made the bold statement saying this will NOT be a classic! laughable statement really! ask any real hiphop fan and 100% this will be in their classics list.

this may not be a pop classic but who needs pop when you can have thoughtful, intelligent and hard hitting quality music like heard on this album!!??

Monch is by far the most talented hiphop artist around, its a real shame he doesnt appear a bit more regular! cant wait for his new album!

Buy this NOW!!

5.0 out of 5 stars why do people have to take music so seriously???, 7 Jun. 2007
This review is from: In Between Dreams (Audio CD)
First point - This album is amazing! chilled, relaxing, easy to listen to without having to concentrate too much, just let yourself drift away whilst realaxing in the garden or on the beach or wherever...

In my opinion this type of music is here for just this reason, so why do people analyze and study it? and come back with comments like the music is bland or boring, this is so totally untrue.

Jack Johnson's whole image is relaxed and chilled, his music brings that across and makes the listener feel the same, there is no need to sit down and actually listen to every note and every lyric, the sound just takes you away, its toe tapping and mind blowingly fresh.

it seems some people are taking jack much too seriously, i am sure his ambition was not to create intelligently crafted lyrical music (even though in my opinion is lyrics are perfectly fine) but just to create a sound which is pleasing to the ear and that can transport you away from your troubles and stress after a long day, and i have to say he has done it on this and his other two albums.

Highly recomended, 99.9% of music fans WILL enjoy it!
