5.0 out of 5 stars one of her best, 24 Feb. 2008
Although esssence is my favourite, i think there are stronger tracks on this album. I just love the way she breaks down the barriers between rock.blues ,country and folk. After a while it is just music you are listening to . Initially the lyrics and arrangements seem simple but somehow she seems to get more from so little that it does not matter. In the beginning i just liked her but now i listen to her music almost all the time. Someone called her the femail neil young but i think they were doing her a disservice because i am a neil young and i think when you have listened her neil seems a little tame.

4.0 out of 5 stars his master piece, 8 Nov. 2007
This review is from: Electric Ladyland (Audio CD)
what makes this album really different from the first two is that jimi had more time to spend on recordings.on are you experience there is penny pinching and the sound is rubbish.the tunes are not allowed beyond a certain lenght. i personally think it is unlistenable. the difference is best shown on all along the watchtower. compare the version that he did with dave mason on bass that is on the albums that came out after his death and the same basic track he took with him to america and put on those over dubs for electric ladyland version. the difference is enormous. the chas chandler produced version is a just good song but the hendric version is a contendor for the greatest song ever.I wish he had done same for spanish castle magic and put some overdubs and the result would have the same for spanish castle.the whole lady album is fused with a soulfull sound in the playing and works beautifully all the way through the album until the last track. voodoo chile slight return. this track just destroys anything before it , not just on this album but all the music before that has gone. when it is finished you know music will never be the same. i heard it on the radio at work recently and it was so shocking sonically. how many records can you say that about nearly 40 years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars not the first but the best, 29 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Axis: Bold As Love (Audio CD)
one day i woke and discovered that axis was the best hendrix album.I got fed up with the riff based songs on 'are you experienced'. Most of that album seems really commercial to me,it does not work as whole album but a collection of songs where as axis is cohesive as whole. It opens with a jarring insrumental ipersonationg a flying saucer and seques into 'up from the skies'. It is great song that predicts global warming decades before anyone else. It has superb jazz feel.Next is 'spanish castle magic' with great lyrics and a rocker of amazing frenzy. One song follows another till we reach the masterpiece 'little wing'.The opening by even hendrix standard is superb as well as a great love song . If six was nine is three songs in one and ends with an inredible freak out ending with not guitar but flutes. The energy is maintained on the hard and poppy 'you got me floating'. the song is an amazing feel good song which makes the next song feel so unusal on this album.'castles made of sand' makes you come down to earth with three stories of ironies of life. Noel redding song is another piece which grounds the album. the remaining songs lift it up again particularly 'bold as love' which is one of the great hendrix tracks. What makes this album so special among hendrix albums is that no singles were released. I think it is the greatest hendrix album. buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars used to be my favorite album, 20 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Baby I'm Bored (Audio CD)
when i first bought it i used to play it all time. what toppled it from that position was the fact i listened to couple of neil young albums like 'silver and gold' and 'harvest'.although they could not compete in the tunes department they seemed to have more feeling. so i stopped listening for a while but recently i have fallen in love with it again. the first five tracks flow into one another like few other albums. some of the songs are heartbreakingly honest like 'all my life'. every word in that song is true. best time to listen to that song is in a room full of stuff you bought and did not need as well as having done something you did not need to do. i think it is a futur classic

1.0 out of 5 stars overrated and irrelevant, 18 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Blonde On Blonde (Audio CD)
let me ask you this .Would you have tolerated a bad voice, bad harmonica and pretentious lyrics if the person was a black performer. No way even now performers like chuck berry {in my opinion much better song writer than dylan} are not aprreciated. I think people do not actually listen to dylan as much as they think they do.No body gets into rock to listen to rubbish like this. We liked rock because it was muscular ,exciting and life changing. I do not find any of these qualities in bob dylan .as my mr david honey said,'if dylan was starting today he would not got past the x factor final'. truer words like this have not been said before.
