2.0 out of 5 stars Hermetic knowledge, 19 May 2010
This book says very little about the 7 Hermetic Laws and a great deal about spiritual healing and self help books. It certainly does not tell the reader as much as 'The Kybalion'

1.0 out of 5 stars Egyptian Mysticism, 19 May 2010
This book is old fashioned and inaccurate. It does not conform to modern archaeological knowledge

The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials)
The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials)
by Philip Pullman
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Conclusion of Philip Pullman's excellent trilogy, 4 Feb 2009
The Amber Spyglass concludes Philip Pullman's exploration of parallel universes and dark matter, and throws in quantum entanglement for good measure. You must read the first two volumes in order to understand this book, but once you've read them you have to read this. A master work with a very powerful conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Science fiction exploring dark matter, 4 Feb 2009
The Subtle Knife is the second book in this series. Philip Pullman explores the theme of parallel universes and dark matter, and their possible implications. It is well plotted and inventive, and I just had to keep reading it to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A culturally accurate page turner, 4 Feb 2009
The Spies of Soebek again shows Paul Doherty's excellent grasp of his subject matter. It's another well plotted murder conspiracy set in Ancient Egypt. I couldn't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete overview of Ancient Egyptian culture, 19 Jun 2007
This book is the most clear and concise overview of Ancient Egyptian culture yet written. Moustafa Gadala has taken the various strands of religion, ethics, customs, administration, art, science, and technology, and melded them into a coherent and fascinating book that is easy to read without specialised knowledge of Ancient Egypt. Anybody who is interested in Ancient Egypt will enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Ancient Egyptian beliefs shaped Western culture, 19 Jun 2007
Many aspects of Western culture originated in Christianity. This is especially true for our ethical system, and the way we organise our year with festivals at Christmas, Easter, etc. Moustafa Gadala demonstrates in his book how these ethics and festivals were first developed in Egypt more than 1000 years before the birth of Christianity. His book is easy to read, and clearly illustrated and indexed. It's a must for anyone interested in the development of Western thought.
