An enjoyable book and worth reading. Has a tonne of typos but otherwise time well spent for me. It was honest and genuine.

An honest, straight to the point, manly book! Well done to Gerry - even if you don't use or agree with all (running IS great!!!!) Everyone WILL find a nugget in here.

A very easy read.

I found this book quite aggravating. It asserts many ideas, most of which good and others which are not accurate or near current thinking.

It is a basic quick summary but seems to try to convince this book is all you need - the diet info, training info etc are pointlessly basic and not great. A sample training plan could have been given on one page for example that gave a one week overview with recommended mileage.

The aspect I found poorest was the language - pedantic at times, old fashioned yet grammatically poor and either patronising or condescending in equal measure.

I actually think this book is aimed at people who see no.purpose in running and this is to convince them that it's possible for anyone. This book would not be anything other than the most basic intro. If looking for training info, I'd look at multiple other more qualified books.

I enjoyed the human elements of this book - running to work, lunchtime, fitting crazy running around family.

I enjoyed the motivation, the tone and the positivity behind the book - well worth buying.

Well written, personal but not full of itself.

I am sure there are many details that did not make print but overall shows the depth of talent and the broad range of aspects which have led To Kenyan dominance in long distance running.

A good read, a bit relentless at points and often seems a sad waste of a life - but such was the chaotic life of Moonie.

A true musical legend and demoralizing at the end but worthwhile read from a man who was there at a key stage.

Well written and gripping throughout. Allows thought to the themes and is not washed or unnecessarily brutal - just accurate.

Well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and motivating, 28 Dec. 2012

This review is from: The Lazy Runner (Kindle Edition)
An easy to read book, written in a clear and unmuddled style. This book is driven towards those who would class themselves as a "thinking about taking up running" or "I run but with a grimace", although I have been running for a few years and enjoyed it.

The book is not self-flattering or full of "look how much better I am than you" nor is it, thankfully, an incredibly humble book.

If you like running, would like to like running, or can't understand why anyone would bother taking up running AND keep going, this is the book for you. I did not come away from reading the book overwhelmed with emotion, bursting with new factual knowledge (there are plenty of other books out there for that) but I did feel I could empathise with the author and understood where she was coming from.

Also, it has pushed me to get out for that run in the cold Scottish wind and rain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book, 18 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Horror In The East (Paperback)
An excellent, balanced and well written book. Not a long book, and not bursting with intricate details but there are many other research-based books that do that. The strength of Lawrence Rees is his reflection and insight into the thinking of perpetrators of criminal acts during war, even reflecting upon if these abhorrent evils are actually criminal?

Worth reading and investigating, as are all of his other books.
