Beth's voice and Joe's guitar are a marriage made in musical heaven. Blues in shades from cerulean to indigo - not to be missed.

This review is from: Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos (Audio CD)
An album of self-penned songs that linger in the mind long after the cd has been put to bed. There is a very special sadness that purveys Ms Wallumred songs and her restrained, almost deadpan delivery creates a poignant meloncholy that seems give a degree of heroism to even the deepest depths of despair. A musical equivalent of Nordic Noir. Dark, haunting and rather wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare and Original Talent, 27 Mar 2014

A voice, a cello, a loop peddle and a few strategic assortment of taps, scrapes and sighs are all Ms Wade uses to produce one of the most haunting and evocative songs of the last few years.

I first heard this song on the soundtrack of the US tv series Banshee and immediately thought that I'd discovered a brilliant and original America folk/blues alumni that had somehow escaped my attention all these years. I was therefore surprised to discovered that not only is Ms wade a young British singer songwriter, but that this song (and others of almost equal merit) were released on her 2011 ep and have been systematically ignored by the British music industry.

The fact that it takes an American tv show to highlight the talents of a British singer/songwriter is a telling inditement of a music industry and media that treats originality and innovation as a form of leprosy to be shunned and allowed to die silently of neglect..

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow, stripped-back meloncholy, 27 Mar 2014

This review is from: Flower of evil (Vinyl)
This collection of covers is given the unmistakable Wallumred treatment - slow, stripped-backand meloncholy that drifts into the listener's subconscious and brings out qualities in the songs that you've probably never noticed before. Some work better than others - Jailbreak, Changes and Don't Come Around Here Anymore are especially effective - but the whole album is an object lesson in how to turn other people's work into something that is uniquely your own. Not to everyone's taste, but if you like music that haunts rather than simply entertains this album is definately for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The old master has rediscovered his form, 11 Mar 2014

The poetry, the humour, the insight, the lessons of life long lived and quietly savoured. are all there again in the songs. The voice is older, deeper, cracked at the edges, no longer quite melodious enough to gently seduce Suzanne but even better suited to growl defiance at a world that hides it's Hallelujah's in a Tower of Songs.

Great album from a man who has not only inspired but also changed generations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Television at its very best, 11 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fringe is a brilliant combination of thought provoking science fiction, convoluted thriller and multi-layered family drama. The cast is uniformly excellent and, although John Noble's portrayal of the brilliant, eccentric and more than a little mad scientist, Walter Bishop, is one of televison's greatest creations, the show wouldn't work if Anna Torv's, often quietly understated Olivia didn't command the centre, providing a unwavering focal point around which the action and the other characters evolve and unfold.

And what a fascinating array of characters they are. No-one is exactly what they seem. Heroes succumb to their weaknesses. Villains shock with unexpected displays of compassion. Everyone has their own loyalties and agenda. Everyone is flawed. The list of guest stars reads like a who's who of American character actors and I don't remember a single performance during the entire series that doesn't bring something memorable to the role.

This is television at its very best; intelligent, complex, suspenseful, allegorical, epic, passionate, painful, uplifting, unremittingly human and wonderfully entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars A weird and wonderful mixture of noir thriller, teen drama and Shakesperian tragedy., 30 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ignore the reviews that describe Veronica Mars as a teen drama. It's far more than that. Television series of this quality and originality don't come along very often and when they do they don't usually last very long because television is there to serve the masses and the masses don't want quality. It's therefore a bit of a minor miracle that Veronica Mars lasted the best part of three seasons before suffering the same fate as some of its equally brilliant and original predecessors (Twin Peaks and Firefly, etc.).

Basic premise: Veronica Mars is that the teenage daughter of a small town private eye who investigates a variety of 'crimes' on behalf of her fellow students against the background of an ongoing investigation into the murder of her best friend.

The individual story lines vary from relatively lightweigh (theft of the school mascot) to a heady mixture of murder, rape, theft and corruption, with a season-long ongoing investigation into a particularly complex murder and conspiracy. Brilliantly written with some of the sharpest dialogue ever written for the small screen - Raymond Chandler would have been proud of some the one liners.

The characters are all multidimensional (even the herioine is deeply flawed) and their interreactions are as complex and multidimensional as the characters themselves. All superbly brought to life by a ensemble cast of talented newcomers and established character actors.

Veronica Mars also boasts one of the most intense, complex and tragic romantic entanglements ever to appear on the small screen thanks to the superb performnces and remarkable onscreen chemistry between Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls). Caught in a complex web of intersecting relationships our starcrossed lovers battle their inner demons and a dangerous world of psychotic killers and ruthless conspirators - separating and reuniting as they are buffered by events beyond their control and the deep wounds and flaws in their own characters.

An absolutely brilliant example of what can be achieved when talent is allowed its head.

Brilliant headphones. They may be 30 years old but no-one has yet produced anything that can rival Porta Pro for the combination of quality and value for money. Exceptional quality and a cool retro look. What more do you want.

Creative products may not be the most functional and user friendly, but when it comes to audio quality they are hard to beat. The EP-630's are a great example of Creative's ability to produce earphones with much better audio quality than those more than twice the price.
