5.0 out of 5 stars THE BOOK OR THE FILM? EITHER, THEY'RE EQUALLY GOOD., 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a story, and it's all true.
Having read the book a few years ago, (very well-written, a genuinely easy read concerning very difficult subject matter), I was wary, at first, of the film. How could it be faithful to such a deeply personal autobiographical work? Impossible, I thought, according to my stunted imagination.
Well, having watched the film for about five minutes, I needn't have worried at all.
Although the thrust of the story and the author's life is a tale of personal tragedy and of the utmost gravitas, he likes the ladies and has a wicked sense of humour, as becomes apparent in the opening scenes of the film and book.
Amalric's sense of humour only gets him so far, as we soon learn. Whilst accessible and written in a relaxed and flowing style, the subject matter is not always so easily explained or commonplace as humour soon gives way to internalised anger and frustration.
Likewise, the film is made in a unique "first person style", and we see and hear other people from within his altered and damaged perspective. Exactly how this is achieved is a marvel of the film itself.
Surrounded by pretty nurses and beautiful women from the very beginning, the protagonist makes his feelings clear to us, but his emotions remain "Locked-In", like almost everything else about him, as a prisoner inside his own mind, trapped in his own body.
See the film. Read the book. In ANY order.

5.0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED FILM., 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A unique and lovingly made work of cinema, recording a dying culture and way of life now, arguably, gone forever.
Using his unobtrusive and highly individualistic style, Ornaghi has recorded a detailed and sensitive history of a society probably now lost to mankind forever, given their fragile circumstances and vulnerability to feudal hierarchy and encroaching 20th C influences coming to bear.
At just over 3 hours in length, it may seem unduly long to some, but, to this viewer, it was over too soon, and I feel he could have doubled or trebled the oevre, without a minutes' waste.
Truly, a great work for cinematic and universal posterity.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIDDEN GEM!, 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's Th 'OO, THE ORIGINAL GROUP, ALIVE AND KICKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's NOT to like??????????? Some will be critical, no doubt, of quality, poor sound recording level or whatever. Be that as it may, this IS the one and only line-up, for true Who-Fans, who will, on no account, accept NO substitute whosoever, whatsoever.
There are, undeniably, a scarce and finite amount of their original and un-tainted performances available in this format, so what are you waiting for?
Why are you still there? The time is NOW, people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB CONCERT, AND A WELL- PRODUCED DVD SOUVENIR, REGION 1., 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Saw the Concert on "SkyArts1" in the first place, and hunted down this DVD copy after some fortuitous internet research.
My brother and his (American) wife live in Florida, so Christmas and Birthdays are always a challenge, but this this DVD ticked a few boxes all at once, so well done to the vendors for serving up a Region 1 edition for me to send Trans-Atlantic to them!!!!!!!
(N.B: Hats off to Messrs. Krauss, Harris, Welch, Cox and Chris Thomas King who all deliver super individual and collective performances throughout this magical evening of music and song).

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT BIRTHDAY GIFT, 3 Mar. 2013

An ideal and affordable Birthday present for my daughter's boyfriend (here's a clue: they live in MANCHESTER!).
I recorded the original programme at about 3.00a.m. on "SkyArts1", then stumbled across this DVD bargain after some lucky and intuitive internet searches.
Good service from the vendor, at the right price. Top hole!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LEND SOME VARIETY TO YOUR DAILY PRACTICE, 3 Mar. 2013

Interesting and challenging ways to progress with scales and basic principles of flute practice.
Scales are scales, undeniably, but these exercises do manage to lend a less dreary and more thoughtful approach to the dull and boring essentials.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRUTH, LIES AND REALITY OF LIFE - YOU BE THE JUDGE!, 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Second - hand book purchased as a gift for my (adult!) daughter's Birthday - delivered in very good nick, excellent value.
A recommendation, of sorts, as I had loaned an original hard-back copy from my local library a few years ago.
As to the book itself - Boy George has lied, publicly, through most of his adult life, BUT in this book he tells the plain, painful and unvarnished truth about his his colourful and chequered life so far, in a candid and highly readable style.
