2.0 out of 5 stars What a mess!, 24 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The gig is OK but the blu-ray isn't. Amazon UK advertises that this has been filmed at 24 frames per second. But when I started watching this, the picture was only 30 frames per second (NTSC)! When the video is converted from 24 fps to 30 fps it starts to fidget a little bit. That looks just terrible in the scenes that have movement in sideways. The video is 1080i and doesn't have the sharpness and pure clarity that a good blu-ray has. Even some DVDs have better picture quality than this.

The audio quality is a disappointment also. This sounds a little like a normal lossy DVD audio (for example Dolby Digital 5.1). It's lacking the punch and the clarity that HD audio (in this case DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1) usually has.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not like the pictures.., 26 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Buyers be aware! Content is pure Dirty Harry blu-ray but the package isn't like the pictures of this item. Those show that all of the films are in individual cases and that those cases are in cardboard slipcase but this isn't true. There's only two cases in the slipcase. First one holds three discs and the second one two discs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so much of a bargain.., 15 July 2012

Maybe you think that this 'The Albums Collection' is a bargain boxset because it includes all The 13th Floor Elevators's albums. But that isn't the case here. Let me tell you..
A) The mastering of 'The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators' is terrible, loud and harsh. The sound quality of that record itself maybe poor but bad mastering isn't helping.
B) 'Live' isn't live, it's a fake live - it's just a compilation of some unreleased studio takes and album cuts overdubbed with audience noises

Also, four CDs are actually quite unnecessary because the albums are short and there is only one bonus track. Without it these four albums would have fitted in two CDs. But it's the record companies.. this way they can keep the price higher!

1.0 out of 5 stars What happened to The Mars Volta?, 7 July 2012
This review is from: The Bedlam in Goliath (Audio CD)
When I first heard De-Loused in the Comatorium, I was amazed. I thought it was great prog rock with experimental influences. Frances the Mute didn't have the same unique feeling, it also missed the raw energy of the first album but I felt that it still was prog. The live album Scabdates was also prog.. but it was too much of complex noise and it felt less live than the studio albums...

I haven't heard Amputechture but at least in this album, The Bedlam in Goliath, The Mars Volta has finally lost the prog element completely. What noise is this? Crap? Eh.. I really can't understand this album. There's no 'musical aim' or any other goals. This is so pointless and annoying noise that I couldn't even listen to it completely - I had to stop!

..and a bad mastering isn't helping either. Loud as hell and brighter than white noise. My ears just can't stand the music and the sound of this record

If you wanna listen to MUSIC stay away from this!

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this pop?, 7 July 2012
This review is from: Poppy (Audio CD)
This album was a terrible disappointment. First, where's the prog? I can only hear pop(py). Second, even the sound isn't rock. Third, if this is pop, the songs aren't even average in that genre.

This review is not for the music, it's for the product itself. This was advertised as a box set but was only one disc release. Stay far away!
