8W LED Natural White Dimmable High Quality E27 (Screw in) 600 Lumens Incandescent /CFL Replacement
8W LED Natural White Dimmable High Quality E27 (Screw in) 600 Lumens Incandescent /CFL Replacement

2.0 out of 5 stars Good while it works, failed after a year., 3 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We bought one of these lamps to put in a closed-front light fitting in a bathroom. The Compact Fluorescent (CFl) lamp we been using before took an age to get up to maximum brightness.

On the positive front, this bulb was decently bright, and instant-on with none of thet slow cral up to full brightness.

However it failed after only a year, and for a pretty expensive bulb that is very disappointing. We are now back to using CFl bulbs and having to wait 5+ minutes for the lights to come on properly.

4.0 out of 5 stars At last, decently bright LED spots, But there are some caveats., 3 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These lamps are brighter than other LED GU10 spots we have tried. However you need to be aware that-

* They have a narrower beam angle than some other lamps (especially the ones with multiple surface-mount LEDs). This leads to a more "pooled" light, and higher perceived brightness, but at the cost of a less even light spread.

* Unlike LEDs up to about 5W which are very efficient and run very cool, these higher-power lamps waste more energy in the built-in transformers, so they run hotter than other LEDs. Nowhere near as hot as a halogen lamp, but still if one of these has ben switched on for an hour you really don't want to touch it with bare hands.

* These lamps are longer (deeper) than standard GU10 halogens, and many other LEDs. That may not be a problem, but you need to check your light fitting to make sure they will fit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a year then died, not impressed., 9 Sept. 2014

This review is from: PaperPort 14.0 (PC) (DVD-ROM)
When I first bought PaperPort I had problems with it crashing, but with some support from Nuance (which from memory included a patch download) it worked ok, for a year or so.

Luckily I wasn't interested in the cloud storage option in PP14, so I wasn't upset when the 3rd party supplier of the service dropped out without warning. However about a few months ago i had to re-install the OS on my machine (Windows 7 64 bit), and PaperPort has been unusable ever since, it just crashes as soon as you try to scan a document.

Nuance are one of those companies who stick rigidly to only providing support to new customers for the first 12 months. I'm not happy about spending £40-£50 on a piece of software that was only usable for just over a year.

There's no upgrade available (I have v14 already) and even if there was i'm not sure I would want to give Nuance any more of my money.

Currently looking for a decent alternative, preferably free open source software.

USB 2 PORT HUB COMPUTER LAPTOP PC
USB 2 PORT HUB COMPUTER LAPTOP PC

4.0 out of 5 stars Tiny, cheap, works well. What more can you ask?, 19 Aug. 2014
This review is from: USB 2 PORT HUB COMPUTER LAPTOP PC
I was a bit wary about plugging in a 2 port hub to run my colour printer and USB scanner, downstream of an active 5m cable (which is in effect a cable with a hub built in), but in fact it all works very well.

The hub itself is tiny and easy to hide, and has activity (connected) lights. The connecting cable is short, but at this price you can't really complain.

5.0 out of 5 stars so easy to route, 19 Aug. 2014
Slim flexible cable, so easy to route. It's seen by the host as a cable plus a (1 port) hub, so I was a bit wary about then plugging in a further 2 port hub downstream to run my colour printer and USB scanner, but in fact it all works very well.

Eventually I guess USB2 devices will be superceded by USB3, but until that happens this is a very cost-effective solution if you have your USB peripherals a long way away from your computer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but not cheerful- Avoid, 19 Aug. 2014
You'd think an item as simple as this (just a plug, a socket, and ~1cm of wire) would be hard to get wrong, but sadly in this case they managed it.

Initially the adapter seems solid enough, but when i looked more closely at the one I received I could see that one of the two slotted and knurled screws didn't actually have a screwdriver slot, so quality isn't that good.

Plugging it in was tricky, it feels stiff and nasty- a bit like you may be bending some of the pins, even when you aren't.

But the key thing is- does it work well? and the answer is- no sadly it doesn't. As soon as I plugged this in between my DVI cable and monitor I started getting screen flickering and glitches, If you pushed/pulled the adapter connections the display would go completely blank, so clearly a bad connection as being made with the cable and/or screen.

Removing the adapter got the screen running fine again, so I had to conclude the adapter itself is at fault.

One star then, it just doesn't do the job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wort paying a litle extra for a quality unit. Perfect for a Raspberry Pi plus periherals., 4 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice quality unit. More expensive than some, but it's well put together and comes with a decent quality power supply that actually produces something like its rated output.

So many cheap hubs come with poor quality generic PSUs whose output drops well below 5V as soon as you try and draw close to the the rated current. This Plugable hub will happily run a Raspberry PI plus a 2.5" hard disk and other USB peripherals, so it's well worth paying a little bit extra for quality.

BargainUniverse® USB Data Sync Charger cable for iPod iPhone
BargainUniverse® USB Data Sync Charger cable for iPod iPhone

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap- you get what you pay for., 4 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bit cheap and nasty. After plugging in the iPhone end 2 or 3 times the innards of the plug came loose from the plastic casing. Easy enough to fix with a Dremel and a hot glue gun, but that really shouldn't be necessary.

Goobay 69686-GB 7.5m CAT6 Network Cable with 2x RJ45 Unshielded Plugs - Black

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware- 7m cable NOT 7.5 !, 4 Aug. 2014
This is a nice slim flexible cable that looks to be of decent quality. However there is one issue.

The advert says this is a 7.5m cable, but the cable that was delivered to me was only 7m long, and it specifically says 7.0m on the packaging.

Now half a metre might not seem like much, but for me that actually makes a difference. I now have my computer desk and router (on the other side of the room) strung together by a cable that is uncomfortably stretched across the corners of the room. That extra 18" would have made all the difference.
